Fate Of Basic Medical Students After Graduation In Nigerian Universities by HammedOlanaija(m): 3:45pm On Apr 30, 2020
What is the fate of Basic Medical Students after graduation in Nigerian Universities?Excluding Nursing
Let's talk about Physiology,Anatomy,Pharmacology,Biochemistry and others
What kind of job awaits these students after graduating?
Are they all supposed to go into teaching line because the system of BMS is bad in Nigeria?

Just think outside the box. Go for your Masters or Ph.D and probably become a lecturer
No job for them in hospitals.

You are right tho but why must it be only teaching and teaching
You can imagine if everyone in BMS becomes a lecturer and the next generation and so on

So now basically,if I studied physiology for example and graduated with a degree. And apparently I tend to go into teaching line to lecture after sensing and looking into the situation of the country. So are you expecting me to tell my students to all go into lecturing because the country is bad.And after it's their own reign too as a lecturer after taking my advice so as not to stay jobless will they also continue with the thread

smiles!

...to become that lecturer is not easy, with my little experience.

...my Dept (BCH) has added only two lecturers ( graduates assistant) to their fold since 2008 when I was a fresher.

... many have completed their Msc in the school, yet no show at all!

NB; none of them die ooo, they are all Hale and healthy

biochemistry and pharmacology is not under basic medical sciences,at least in my school and in addition, they are other good lucrative courses under BMS. So i think you should specify physiology and anatomy.

Abi ooo even the lecturer job is not easy to get.....You said none of them die but you need to know one thing after spending four years of my time and funds do you still expect me to be having issues with my day to day feeding...3 in 1 will turn
2 in 1 or 1 in 1 (feeding per day)is that a good thing
When will someone not die of ulcer and depression

Physiotherapy is a bad business here in nigeria because after opening a center most pple think it's porn center or something but talking about radiography
I think it makes sense sense a bit
And then what is the mls

At least u laughed, i'm glad about that.

U'v truly got two options dear;

1) If time is still on ur side n u av sponsors, apply for DE n study one of d core medical courses with higher chances of getting job, not necessarily medicine, could be nursing, radiography, physiotherapy e.t.c

2) If u graduate with good grade, at least 2:1, (2:2 is not worst too) pause the pursuit of job in ur profession for now and start applying to other fields where u can get training right on the fields e.g banks and some other corporate fields ( please don't move close to "marketing"wink

My candid advise

Physiotherapy dear not physiology (there are broad differences between the two).

In short, physiotherapy is dope.

Physiology? Just use the antonym of dope for this.

Peace

Initially, There were no degree programs for those BMS courses..They were just courses offered by medical students.
But because of so much people applying for Medicine and end up not getting it, They had to create those departments to as leverage.

Marketing
Pharmacology: When that same marketing is what most pharmacologists do in nigeria whereas none of them did maths or further during their course of study
Most times you will get to see adverts requesting for pple with Pharmacology BSc degree to comman be medical sales rep
Like wtf sales rep? After 4yrs....it's really crazy

Nah, that's is very wrong conception. There is a difference between a physiotherapist and a massage therapist. It's the ones that want private practice that open a center, most of them work in hospitals. Physiotherapy is more than just massaging, when someone is involved in an accident, he goes through physiotherapy, a stroke patient also goes through physiotherapy to fully recover, etc. It is called medical rehabilitation for a reason. people that do massages only( the ones involved in all those porn stuff) are called masseuse NOT physiotherapists

Pharmacology is a part of pharmacy just the way anatomy is a part of medicine. So because it is under pharmacy doesn't mean they can do the work of a pharmacist, just the way an anatomy graduation cannot perform actual surgery on someone.

I was talking about bank/insurance marketing and related stuff. Compared to these, medical sales rep is even better

If that should be the case,if we go into details then. It's only general hospitals that we have rehabilitation centers although some private hospitals might have too
But at least there will be not more than 3 private hospitals with rehabilitation centers because they(especially the doctors)don't count it as a irrelevant system.
And often think it's a waste of money especially in Nigeria

It's not necessarily a rehabilitation center, most hospitals have a physiotherapy department, it's very essential.

Why will a basic medical student go into a strange field that doesn't team up with his/her credentials. And which company will in anyway employ a medical student in an accounting field. It's a reproach and absurd thing to do.

U are still saying this basic med with "igara"... LMAO grin

Nobody will even employ u in accounting field (they strongly deal with professionals)...we are talking about general banking e.g cashier, customer service/care or other organizations that also need less skilled worker like this.

At least to keep tins in place for a while, which does not mean u sud forget about ur dream.
If anyone have to tell u d truth, dat's d two options av given u.

Lecturing job is not also easy to get in Nigeria of today.

Going back to school to study something better might b d best tho.

Some people will just be hyping their undergraduate course in Nigeria, thereby giving themselves pious hope. I remember how a friend studying Marine Science was confidently saying that he could be employed after school in some organisation, cooperation, and company. The guy is now a photographer. I haven't contacted him in a long time. Perhaps he might have gotten employed by an organisation, cooperation, and company. grin
