Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the delayed closure of the country’s borders, seaport, and airports, including the failure of returnees to self-isolate, caused the spread of COVID-19. He said this during an Instalive interview with CNN on Wednesday. According to the governor, Lagos was prepared to curb the spread of COVID-19 but had to wait for the Federal Government to shut airport, seaport and land borders. The PUNCH reports that though Nigeria recorded its first COVID-19 death on February 27, the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), officially shut the country’s airports, seaports, and borders on March 29. 6' FEATURED Sanwo-Olu blames late airport, border closures for COVID-19 spread Published April 30, 2020 Sodiq Oyeleke Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the delayed closure of the country’s borders, seaport, and airports, including the failure of returnees to self-isolate, caused the spread of COVID-19. He said this during an Instalive interview with CNN on Wednesday. As of March 29 when president shut the country’s airports, seaports, and borders, Nigeria had recorded 111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and one death. When asked about the state’s preparedness, Sanwo-Olu said, “Given the population that we have, we are a bit ahead in terms of preparation, as a state, but we are sub-national. We couldn’t give directives as to when Nigeria should close the airport, seaport, or in-land border. |

The Nigerian Government were waiting for their Siblings/Children/Relatives/Cronies to return before they shut the borders. This goes to show you the utter contempt this government has for its citizens. I hope Nigerians are paying attention and I hope they will not be swayed by bags of rice/salt in the next election, but I doubt it. Come 2023, it will be business as usual with Nigerians voting in the same decrepit demons as leaders of this country. |

When I said it earlier that Buhari caused this shit by not stopping flights and not closing borders as soon as the virus entered US and UK some animals here, in the name of defending anything APC, attacked me saying that closing the border and stopping flight is not something Nigeria can do on their own and that Buhari would have to obtain permission from America and Europe before doing that. Some times when I hear those blind APC supporters talk, I just faint. 2 Likes |

It is the fault of PDP if we check well. Sanwo, whose duty was it to order the late closures ? GEJ. We need the account number of GEJ to see why he didn't close the airports on time. 2 Likes |

This was very obvious. The incompetence of the FG has put LASG in so much burden. They're having the highest number of cases and also on the verge of running out of bedspace. |
