Ingratitude is both a demotivating factor to God and man. Recall in the Bible when God delivered the Israelites from their foes, the tradition was the institution of yearly memorial feasts from the day of victory to the days after them. These memorials served as a gift of gratitude to God for past deliverances and opened more doors for prosperity in the land of Israel.

In the New Testament also, the Bible records the healing of 10 lepers by Jesus Christ where just 1 of them came back to appreciate his healer. Jesus is recorded to have fortified his healing thus, making him ‘wholer’ than the other 9 who never saw the need to return in appreciation of Him.

The story is not different from today’s world where a lot of people clamour for promotion, good health, blessings and what have you without going back to the facilitators of their answered prayers to say “Thank you”.
This is perhaps the reason “help” has become a herculean task to practice as many helpers have later turned out to regret the help they offered to a needy in times of want. It is not news that a lot of help given to people have been used against them directly and indirectly.

In Akwa Ibom State, this scenario plays out on some appointees of the state government who have never said a thing – positive or negative – about the government they are eating from. They do not embark on constituency briefings on the government’s activities or call for support for it, they do not address the press to make or counter assertions, they do not speak even in the lowest tunes about the government, neither have they done a single benefit to their constituents from their allowances or salaries; they are just there!

They literally sit on the fence and are known only at gatherings where they are mandatorily required to be. It is not news that some appointees of Governor Udom Emmanuel are not even known by name or face to their constituents. Worse more is that a chunk of them cannot explain the actions of their boss and his government to the understanding of the public. It is that bad!

Another set of ingrates killing this administration are those appointees in the government and those elected into the party exco who go about philanthropic activities across the length and breadth of the state as though they are spending their personal hard-earned money.

They establish foundations and use same to attend to the needs of people in the rural and urban areas which is quite commendable but never attribute their source to the government, mention the governor’s name or call for support and thanks to Him, notable of this foundation is Ini Ememobong foundation and a host of others.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, these persons and foundations(Ini Ememobong foundation) have been at the fore of support for medical workers, embarking on sensitizations, giving palliatives and other laudable activities without attribution to the government.
Rather than sell the Governor and his kind thoughts to the people, they showcase themselves as the author and finisher of their philanthropic moves and take glories for a privilege they were given to serve.

At the end of the day, they steal the shine off the Governor by creating an impression in the minds of people, of being better off than the sitting government and being able to do more if given the opportunity to serve in a higher capacity.

This unhealthy contest which shows the servant as being better than his master should not be encouraged at a time like this where collaborative effort are most needed.
Political appointees should know that they were put in place to support and not overtake, outshine or snub the government they are working with/for.
