if someone WhatsApp was hacked and they can't recover it by verifying the WhatsApp again, then no WhatsApp is secured. I think one of this happened, either he lost his sim (phone theft) or someone stole the sim from his phone or hacked his sim and wipe him off. Whichever no one should deal with him anymore on that number, the issue here is not everyone would be aware of this, some people have his number saved and would contact him directly without coming to nairaland.

Reputation is at risk, if people blindly lost fund to the scammer using his WhatsApp and he can't clear the damage, by refunding the affected. Btc trades will be the worst as the scammer is completely a ghost when receiving btc.
