It's weird seeing something like this happen outside Naija, especially in a white man's land. We're so used to this kind of occurrence here. I hope she finds peace in the beyond.

A girl riding on a hoverboard at a construction site during coronavirus lockdown was hit and killed by a dump truck, reports say.

Molly, 16, was riding her hoverboard through a construction zone on Monday morning when she was struck by a dump truck that was working at the scene.

A city construction crew told police they saw the truck run over the teen, crushing her to death.

The incident occurred in Hagerstown, Maryland, which is under lockdown over coronavirus concerns.

The teen was riding her hoverboard to meet a friend for lunch, reportedly in violation of the stay-at-home order.

Relatives identified the victim as a “happy and sweet” 16-year-old girl named Molly, after police notified her next of kin.

She was riding on a self-balancing scooter, popularly known as a hoverboard. A new hoverboard can cost over $1,000.

Reports say the teen was taking a shortcut through a construction site when a dump truck hit her and knocked her onto the ground.

The truck driver was unaware he had struck the girl and continued to drive, as the unfortunate 16-year-old was trapped under the vehicle.

The teen was crushed under the wheels of the dump truck and suffered severe trauma to her head and chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The dump truck is owned by the City of Hagerstown, according to police. Officers are working to recreate the scene.

Detectives are investigating why the teen failed to notice the dump truck and whether distraction from cell phone use played a role.
