Cocoa sells for over $2,000 per metric tonne but is not harvested daily. Oil on the other hand is mined daily and sells for between $15 and $28 per barrel, thus ranks higher than cocoa in revenue generation. Nigeria is the 4th largest producer of Cocoa in the world. Nigeria is 15th oil producer in the world by output.

The largest cocoa producing state in Nigeria is Ondo. Other leading producing states are Ogun, Ekiti, Osun, Edo, Akwa Ibom.

When taken together, both Ondo and Akwa Ibom produce Cocoa and Oil, these two should be the richest states in Nigeria, outside Lagos which earns income aggressively through port duties and commerce.

Gold sells for $1,657 per ounce. There are gold deposits in Nigeria but its exploration and mining is not managed and so we are not on the world production list.

The discovery of oil stunted the growth of cocoa driven economy of ondo state and southwest at large, till date cocoa farming is the 2nd mainstay of ondo state, except from corrupt politicians, cocoa farmers are among the well-to-do in ondo, more should be done to help farmers in the state.

Take note that agriculture is very tedious, youth prefer white collar jobs to laboring in the sun, oil is easier to exploit and its needed in almost every country of the earth.

If at this point we still export cocoa means we are just dumb

Ivory coast earned 2.6 billion dollars fr cocoa in one year ... Nestle earns 26 billion dollars from chocolate .....we should be the number importer of cocoa in the world n top exporter of chocolates in the world

That was the same approach we took with importing crude oil to refine and resell. See where it has landed us.

There is a cocoa production plant in Ede, Osun State. We should put tarriff on foreign chocolate and cocoa products so our locally produced brands can make money.

After tariff, the farmers should be aggressively supported like rice and animal farmers. Nigeria should be a force in the chocolate industry! The state governors should take the lead or is cocoa on the exclusive list?

Oh puleeeese stuff it where the sun don't shine!
Allow them to go. Start by initiating a serious discussion about it with them, not this morbid fear ravaging through your system.
If they go and discover they can't survive, shebi they will run back to you that has everything for support and you will earn more revenue for your country. So why are you Wailing?

Wallahi!

Oil we get
Cocoa we get
Gold we get
Ports we get.
Refinery is under construction.

Yoruba should be the one harrassing everyone else and ontop of the harrassment we get whatever we demand.

Our accomodation of the whole is ancestral. Our leaders today do not want to deviate from principles and philosophies of living that benefitted our past and continues today to benefit us. To continue getting the benefit in future we must adhere to those principles, however dire and deeply offensive it is.

Imagine Sanusi Lamido for instance. Same person that said Yorubas are the problem of Nigeria.....when problem of Ganduje visited him where did he run for cover? Yorubaland.

Ibo said Lagos is no man's land but when election palava visisted them in Oshodi and Ikotun and they were caught on video stoning a Yorubaman what did they do? They called on Yoruba elders to intervene and calm street boys.

Since South East don't earn much, leave them to go their separate way or are you not tired of feeding them? That's how you guys lie that Nigeria is not dependent on oil. That cocoa revenue will be shared equally amongst all the states of the federation.

Sesamum seeds have remained Nigeria’s biggest earner of all agricultural exports.

The four major states that produce this commodity in Nigeria are Taraba, Jigawa, Nasarawa and Benue.
