Should Nigerians Pay Tax. by Akpan01: 8:18am On May 05, 2020
I sat down outside my Corridor this evening and I was wondering the lives people live, then this question popped into my mind; "Should Nigerians really be paying Tax to our Government?" Now looking at different states in Nigeria and the rates of Taxes imposed upon their Citizens, One need to ask "What really are the Government at different levels supposed to do to justify these Taxes being imposed on their Citizens.
Taking Lagos for instance, they impose the highest amount of personal Income Tax on the working class as well as the Business entrepreneurs, if you know it, you know it.
Now, considering the impact of Taxes in our environs; Where people pay for virtually every services they receive ranging from Street Security bills, street light fueling bills, waste disposal bills, water bills( as in borehole provisions), electricity bills, as well as Children school fees (From Primary, Secondary etc.) Worst of it is even the requirements from Government schools to register our wards, the demands are outrageous, ranging from Tax Clearance Certificate, Utility bills, LASSRA ID Card and high rate of school fees compared to other states. Making the LASSRA ID Card compulsory, why?
And when you park on even the roads that was built from the Tax payers money, the LASTMA Officials with their Bed-bugs infected clothes will just jump into your vehicle, like-play, like-play, you may have to compulsorily cough out say 15k to 25k depending on your negotiation power or your vehicle brand. The victimisation is much, or the ones that gives uniform personnel Live ammunitions to kill innocent citizens, with the guns bought from Tax payers money, the ones that are erring in their own judgement senses.
Let us be frank, in India and other developed nations, Police use Pepper spray, Tazers etc instead of live-ammunitions.

In your area, are you feeling the positive impact of the Tax you pay? Honest opinions pls. Talk your mind.
