Covid-19-lack Of Medical Supplies Is The Biggest Risk Facing Nigeria by EmekaBlue(m): 8:56am On May 05, 2020
Lack of medical supplies is the biggest risk facing during Nigeria's fight against the Corona Virus.

The outbreak of Corona Virus is now widespread in the United States and whole Europe; there are more than 20,000 cases in Africa. Let’s take a look at the overall situation of global COVID 19 epidemic. As of April 30th , a total of 3,251,817 COVID 19 cases were confirmed positive all over the world, among which only 84,373 cases were confirmed in China, accounting for 2.6%.A total no of 3,167,444 cases were confirmed outside of China, accounting for 97.4% of the total. From March 20 to April 30, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in countries and regions (excluding China) increased from 172,672 to 3,167,444, an increase of 2,994,772 or about 75,000 cases per day. Comparatively, China, as the first county suffering from Corona virus, recorded an increase of 3,365 cases only, an average of 84 cases increase per day, while foreign-imported cases accounted for 1,664 cases, or nearly 49%.It can be seen from these data that the new epidemic has been effectively controlled in China. China's epidemic prevention work is outstanding and its epidemic prevention measures are effective. However, China's achievements and measures in epidemic prevention have not received enough attention from the international community, resulting in the spread of the epidemic around the world (especially in Europe, the United States and other countries).
To summarize China's epidemic prevention measures, the most important three measures are isolation, wearing masks and a strong social functioning system, which is also the European and American countries did not do a good job, leading to the outbreak of an important reason. For Nigeria, a period of a certain isolation measures is possible, for a long period of full isolation is impossible, is also not realistic, because the people have to work, to live, to get source of food. Individual families and society cannot afford long-term non-employment and income of the problems of isolation, the necessary economic activity is needed. On the other hand, wearing masks is also very necessary, because it is easy to achieve and promote, practice has proved that the spread of epidemic control is very effective which means in the early days of the outbreak, countries in Europe and the United States did not strictly quarantine and wear masks, which led to the outbreak out of control and a large number of deaths.
At the beginning of the epidemic, the Chinese government, through a series of policies to support, launched and encouraged all kinds of relevant enterprises to make emergency production of masks and other epidemic prevention materials, ensured that almost everyone who needed to go out could wear masks and effectively control the epidemic. After the outbreak was effectively contained, Chinese masks were gradually supplied to the world to help other countries fight the disease. Of course, we have also heard some voices that some Chinese masks do not meet the quality requirements of the test, which of course needs to be taken seriously. At the same time, we know that due to the tight production time of emergency supplies, the quality control of some masks may not be in place, but the overall quality is strictly checked, which is effective for the prevention and control of the epidemic. Compared with the large range of infection and even loss of life caused by not wearing masks, the quality problems of individual masks that may occur need to be considered in a secondary position. In the critical stage of anti-epidemic emergency response, we need to focus on main issue and let go of the small, saving lives is obviously more important than anything. Moreover, there is a complicated political background behind the exaggeration of the mask issue in China by some countries. As a neutral country, Nigeria does not need to make mistakes in its policy due to the influence of others.
It is understood that Nigeria's production capacity of anti-epidemic materials such as masks is insufficient, mainly relying on imports from China. But now the anti-epidemic goods is at customs custody, This needs to go through a long time of inspection by the health department, the customs clearance cannot be carried out, resulting in many goods from China are stranded in the country, making anti-epidemic goods unavailable in market. People on the street cannot wear masks including our police officers on duty. Respiratory transmission is the main route of covid-19 transmission, and contact in public without a mask is very dangerous and is a huge uncertainty for the spread of the epidemic. In the face of the current global pandemic, the biggest risk for countries lacking the industrial capacity to respond to the outbreak is the lack of medical supplies, and every day customs clearance delay brings more risk of infection. Therefore, rapid detection and rapid release is an urgent problem to be solved.
At present, our country has been isolated from the outside world, external contact channels are limited, and because we cannot meet the supply chain which are not smooth, capable buyers for our epidemic prevention supplies play a vital role. As soon as possible, therefore, we should vigorously encourage suppliers purchasing masks, protective clothing, test reagents, the forehead temperature guns, goggles, disinfectant, gloves and other health protection products, and continuously shipped to Nigeria, take effective measures to ensure fast customs clearance, make all kinds of protective materials can quickly reach epidemic prevention institutions, education agencies, security agencies, and other important social system and the people. Only in this way can the supply of health protection materials in Nigeria be guaranteed as much as possible. Any action that delays hinders or discouraging the operation of health protection materials may cause us to lose the best opportunity for the control of the epidemic and become a suicidal act that drives the epidemic out of control. So far on April 30, we have detected 1,728 cases, and the actual number of cases may be more due to the detection reasons. Even the chief of staff to the President has lost his life due to the infection, which is alarming to us.
Fighting against epidemic is a war, a cruel war involving the whole world, the enemy of this war is the virus, the important weapon against the virus is the epidemic prevention materials, this is the key to lead us win. Getting the supply chain moving and ensuring that Nigeria gets enough supplies as soon as possible. It is an important means for us to fight the virus, and we have no more time to waste. Being a country with large population.
