The Federal Government has revealed plans to decontaminate schools across the country before they reopen their operations. Decontamination would focus on school settings, shelters, and other places.

President Muhammadu Buhari, during his last broadcast, said that as of May 4, the closure in Lagos, Ogun and FCT would be gradually reduced, including the daily curfew from 8pm to 6am. However, the reduction in closure did not include the reopening of schools, places of worship and other places with a probability of uncontrolled population.

Pending the reopening of schools, the Presidential Task Force (TFP) on COVID-19 urged schools to continue e-learning and e-learning until further reviews are made.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja during the PTF members’ daily briefing on COVID19, Environment Minister Muhammad Abubakar said his ministry would work with the education ministry to obtain data from schools to facilitate the decontamination process.

He said: “We are starting a decontamination and disinfection program for our schools before they open because later in the phases, I think we will get to that point where we will start opening schools.
