Fuel tanker nearly plunges into River Niger in Anambra

A fuel tanker on Wednesday narrowly escaped plunging into the River Niger .


The incident it was gathered happened on the Anambra State axis of River Niger at about 8.30am.
The Sector Public Education Officer in the state, Pascal Anigbo, confirmed the incident.

While stating that no life was lost in the incident, Anigbo siad the tanker hit the edge of the bridge thereby hanging on the protective side rail and preventing it from tumbling over.

A said, "At about 8.30am today Wednesday 6th May 2020, a Mack Truck (Tanker) with the registration number NKR41XA laden with fuel crashed at the border between Delta and Anambra State.

" Information gathered from eye witnesses confirmed that the tanker was coming from Delta State into Anambra State and at the boundary into the bridgehead, Onitsha the propeller pulled off from the vehicle and the driver lost control.

"The vehicle subsequently hit the edge, hanging on the protective side rail and preventing it from tumbling over.

"The occupants of the tanker are two male adults. They were not injured.

Anigbo said the FRSC Unit Commander Onitsha Command, Isaac Komolafe called the Fire Service, who responded immediately to salvage the situation.

"FRSC Operatives have cordoned off the area and are managing the traffic.

He said the Sector Commander in the area, Andrew Kumapayi had called on vehicle owners and drivers, especially articulated vehicles to endeavour to ensure that their vehicles were in good working condition before embarking on any trip.

He advised them to check and service their vehicles regularly to avoid unnecessary and preventable road traffic mishaps."
