Although criticism (or feedbacks) are sometimes necessary to assess an individual, government or organization’s performance(s), some criticisms are usually an obvious display of hatred, insult or outright spreading of falsehood, thus, making such criticism(s) baseless and inconsequential. Criticism must be constructive, devoid of foul language, insult and abuses.

On the rumour that the current administration is clamping down on the press, critics and Unionists in the state, it is pertinent to put the record straight here "that there is no member of the NUJ in Akwa Ibom State that is currently in detention" Comrade Amos Etuk, State chairman of NUJ stated during the world press day. Secondly, there is a huge difference between constructively criticizing the government, blackmailing and raising false alarm, all in a desperate attempt to discredit the government or damage its reputation. Some persons who are desperate or desirous of being famous have resorted to spreading false information and blackmailing the authority of the state in the name of advising the state on sensitive issues; therefore, drawing the state on a war-path with its citizens.

No government would condone such, as the image of the government is always at stake in times like this. It is obvious that Governor Udom Emmanuel runs one of the best and open government in Nigeria.

It therefore behooves on us to carefully examine every information within our disposal before circulating them, also be ready to defend same, should there be any need to explain further, and ensure you have people or resources that will help you out, if there be any litigation.

Think again and Take responsibility
