If you are one of those waiting to fly out of the country, or possibly, go from one state to another, you would have to wait for “an additional four weeks.”

Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, announced this extension on “the ban on all flights” at Wednesday’s briefing.

“We have assessed the situation in the aviation industry and have come to the conclusion that given the facts available to us and based on the advice of experts,” Mustapha said at the briefing.

Nigeria enforced the closure of Nigeria’s airspace to flights as a measure to curb the spread of coronavirus.

In a related development, Nigeria is losing about 17 billion naira monthly in the aviation sector as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika announced this at the briefing of the PTF. According to him, the aviation isnin “dire straits” with the emergence of COVID-19.

Sirika says the sector hopes to resume operations when the situation becomes “safe, secure and normal.”

Meanwhile, the PTF Chairman, Mustapha, also reiterated the need for transport unions to educate members “on the ban imposed on Inter-state travels,” because “public transportation is a major clustering area through which the virus can easily be transmitted.”

“We call on the leadership of various transport unions to properly enlighten their members on the dangers associated with non-adherence to the COVID-19 containment guidelines,” Mustapha noted.
