Hello guys.
I have this dilemma, I got introduced into programming at the age of 15 (now I am 16). the truth is I love programming. I am that kind of brilliant student, infact I am a secondary school graduate passed waec and jamb in flying colors. I intend to study computer science in unibadan but many of my friends and my parents are really against it they think I should be studying medicine or engineering not computer science.

And I have seen on many threads on nairaland when people are saying computer science is a waste of time that engineering students are always better than them in programming and are also always better at computer in general than computer science graduates

But I am really passionate about being a programmer infact I was taught Python but i learning c++ on my own so I can integrate Python and c++ well. I also plan to learn r for data science because I am pretty good at Using Python for data science. My laptop is full of so many pdf books, IDE's , tools, frameworks, libraries of those I need and those I do not need.

I want to study computer science not just to know more on programming but also to know more about the computer itself.
But people think it is a useless course, although I have the final decision to make
I need your advice abeg Do you think I should go ahead

If you want to pursue a career in programming, I don't think you necessarily have to study computer science. You can apply your programming knowledge in any field you find yourself and thrive in it.

If there's no particularly important reason you want to study in UI, there are other good schools that offer Computer Eng.

p.s. Studying in a particular school doesn't decide your success in life

Follow your mind bruh. I know a lot of Engineering students ready to give whatever it takes to be in your position and take on computer science. If you are hell bent on Engineering, Elect Elect is your best bet. Good luck

In my own opinion, I think studying computer science in school is a waste of time. Computer science has been branched out and these branches are being studied as courses in schools now...

Courses like Cyber security, software engineering, Information Tech, Information Systems etc are much better because they are specialized in their study compared to computer science their mother course.

I'm studying Cyber security now and I'm glad I wasn't given the course I applied for (which is Computer science) tongue
