With the rising case of Covid 19 infections in Nigeria, there is the need, for government to show seriousness about this as much as we ask the members of the public to adhere to rules.

The Federal Government, with due respect, have been a little lackadaisical about monitoring what is going on in many states of the federation especially in the Northern part of the country where despite a late spike in infection, the cases appeared heading to the roof.

The Government cannot by now be playing lip service to their situation..

You will recall the unnecessary bickering between Governor Wike of Rivers State and the Federal Government on the lockdown imposed in the country. The protest by Wike against the FG leading to the arrest and detention of some pilots of Calverton Helicopters weeks back shows lack of cooperation and politicization of the fight against this pandemic.

What stop governments at both levels to interface very well not withstanding political differences. I blame the Federal Government for even failing to respect the rules it set.

Kano is another very bad example of how not to run the affairs of state. Just like Donald Trump who deridely called Covid 19, Chinese virus who today is harvesting death, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje knew about the pandemic but took no steps to prepare the state and its people for it. Some of the citizens can even be seen protesting that there is no Corona.

Babu Corona they chorused in ignorance. Some were even seen washing hands and legs into a bowl and downing it in their throat to show nothing can happen to them. It was not until people were dying in droves especially prominent citizens of the state before the Governor cried out.

Even in his cries, he didnt come out to say what his state is doing but only to first ask for 15 billion naira as if he want to build a stadium.
Today, kano probably have a higher number of suspected Covid 19 death than all the states put together.

Surprisingly, the Federal Government was also slow in responding Not until the public outcry before the NCDC was mandated by the Presidential Task Force on Covid 19 to provide support for Kano.

Now the most worrisome of all these is the news, supported with video of alleged confirmed patients embarking on street protest about the poor state of their treatment in Gombe State.

In the video, many of them claimed they have not been given any drug in the last 2 weeks and bad food. They even said there is nothing like corona and that it is a ploy to make money by those in government.

If the FG did not take up this issue and investigate the state on what is going on, it will be difficult to convince people that the many people confirmed to be positive are actually so.

I am unfortunately in doubt if any of the people I saw in that video are positive patients. They still have energy, they are not weak or gaunt. So if a confirmed case received no treatment in two weeks, can he be as strong as the men and women of Gombe protesting poor treatment by that state government? We deserve an explanation for that.

Notwithstanding the lackadaisical attitudes of some government and its officials, I will continue to advise the members of the public to take their destiny in their own hands and chose to live.

Covid 19 is real and it still kills.
Follow the guidelines and maintain personal cleanliness while not forgetting to mask up to avoid the story that touch the heart.
