Pressure Mounts On Buhari To Lockdown Nigeria by valentineuwakwe(m): 10:56am On May 07, 2020
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Youth Task Force on COVID-19 has again advised President Muhammadu Buhari to lockdown Nigeria due to rising cases on coronavirus.

Itsey Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), in his suggestion, said Nigeria should be locked for two months.

Officials of the Buhari administration have also decried the level of compliance by citizens since the lockdown ease.

On Thursday, the Progressive Students Movement (PSM) joined calls to the federal government to impose a fresh ‘stay at home’ order.

PSM President, Bestman Okereafor, spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Okereafor expressed concern about facilities, equipment and health workers preparedness in states.

“The Federal Government, as a matter of urgency, should declare a state of emergency in states with high level of confirmed COVID-19 cases basically to reduce the spread of the pandemic.

“The state of emergency should come on these states through strict enforcement of lockdown for at least two weeks.

“This move had become imperative following the increase in inter-state movement especially at night hours notwithstanding the present night curfew imposed by the Federal Government meant to ensure containment of the pandemic,’’ he said.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says the country has recorded confirmed cases to 3,145; death toll has passed 100.

hmm!

Who did we offend in this country, how would people survive if you Lockdown the entire country.

Things are hard for now, I think they should look for another alternative.

It will be disastrous to lockdown the entire country without palliatives.

They can't even take care of the few covid-19 patient that are in the Isolation center, but they would come out and advocate for lockdown like they care about us.

They should also remember to tell him to give every Nigerian #20k first, then proced with the lock down.
That's what advanced Nations are doing.

Yes. But it would save lives in the long run...or would you rather have the streets littered with dead bodies?

Lockdown what?

Instead of advocating for more widespread and rapid testing, more health infrastructure, more PPEs for health workers, its lockdown they are shouting up and down, as if lockdown alone has helped any country.

Countries that are beating the virus did a combination of lockdown and widespread testing, and some countries sef never went on a full lockdown but were able to keep the virus in check with widespread testing, quick isolation and treatment of infected individuals.

The lockdown Nigeria did was a sham. Just about 10k tests were carried out in a space of 5 weeks, and provision for citizens welfare was severely inadequate, which turned many of us in Lagos to part time vigilantes to protect ourselves from scallywags.

As long as testing is still low, deaths will contine to climb because asymptomatic people will keep spreading the virus to the elderly and those with underlying conditions. Prolonged lockdown without testing makes little sense.

Lock down do not save lives..

Lots of People have died right in their houses..

Many were in their houses and got the Virus!

Lockdown is not the Solution..

The Solution is to call on GOD ALMIGHTY in Repentance and Call to Him for Help!

What has killed people more in these times is not Corona Virus but the Fear and thoughts of having contacted the Virus due to what Main media spreads

God is a likely solution, I agree. But do you remember the Children of Israel...when they were in Egypt and how the Lord sent the angel of Death to kill the first-born of all things in Egypt? Did the the children of Israel leave their houses all in the name of finding food to survive ? No. They stayed at home. And right now, staying at home will not only curtail the spread, it will save us the stress of having more sorrows and burying more people.

Ok. ooo, they can go ahead and lockdown the country as long as they want but that 'll not solve the problem of covid 19 pandemic.
the govt is still doing nothing to improve our health sector, not being sincere about genuine palliatives, because they don't want to spend too much money.
the truth is that the fall-outs of this lockdown will cause more deaths they are claiming to prevent, than the deaths that the virus will ever cause in Nigeria.
even this Madagascar covid 19 therapy seems to be working, as some other African countries are going for it, but our government 'll never think about that, because it's not from their beloved European masters, always following Europeans sheepishly while rejecting other alternatives, that can solve the problem speedily.
lockdown alone can not solve this pandemic.

The last Plague of the angel of death in Egypt is not Similar to this!

First, The Isrealites got their Direction from GOD through His Servant Moses and not Godless people.

Secondly, The Lockdown cannot work here because the Government has no GENUIE records or systems to Reach the people..

Lastly, The Present leadership has not involved GOD or His Servants in the issues..

I was using the plague as an analogy. And secondly, it fits correctly into the kind of preventive measure we as a country should take. And as for consulting God on this issue, He has already answered us by giving clear warnings from health officals like WHO

It’s not everything the organised and developed countries of the west do that we should ape! Lockdowns have little or no effect in disorganised and ill-equipped third world countries like Nigeria...especially when there’s little testing, contact-tracing and isolating done during the period! You also have to factor in the lack of social welfare mechanisms and gov’t support for businesses and industries!

Rather, it would be more effective to insist and enforce social-distancing, use of face-masks when out in the public, adequate provision of sanitisers, soap and running water in all public places like motor parks, markets, banks, churches/mosques, etc. Also, testing and contact-tracing should be ramped up, and all positives should either be placed in quarantine or supported by gov’t to self-isolate if the have zero to mild symptoms!

Oga social distancing can never work in Nigeria, people are not even putting face masks, I suggested that police should start flogging people that refused putting face masks but people here started attacking me cheesy the best and only best thing a reasonable government should do now is lockdown this country with full enforcement since people can't obey simple put masks.
