Almajiris: What Do The Northern Governors Actually Want In Southern Nigeria? by Aboks(m): 10:00am On May 10, 2020
I just saw photos of almajiris being shipped to the southern part of Nigeria from the Northern states. I have been reading of the almajiris being intercepted in different states in the south. I understand that the federal government under President Muhammadu Buhari made a pronouncement of a lockdown of all state borders across the country. That pronouncement implies that there should be no inter-state travel pending when the coronavirus pandemic is brought under control.

Based on this pronouncement, it therefore means that in a sane society, nobody, no driver of whatever bus, truck, trailer or car is expected to attempt any interstate journey except those on essential duties. The vehicles regarded as those on essential duties are known by everyone.

They include vehicles of security personnel, health workers, media personnel, food suppliers, pharmaceuticals and agricultural produce. Any vehicle conveying any of this group of people is expected to be allowed into any state in the country because their services are needed even more at this critical period of the nation’s history.

However, if any of this permitted group plays smart and carries in any part of it humans in an attempt to make them cross over to the states, such vehicle is usually impounded and made to return to wherever it is coming from. This has been done in some states. Delta has turned back some buses from parts of the North. Rivers state has impounded some trucks also from the North carrying people along with cows and it was not taken lightly with them.

But of late, the people coming from the North in trucks and trailers are almajiris, small children with youths fully loaded and being transported to the Southern states.

And thanks to the ever vigilant security and taskforce committee members in different southern states, they have been intercepted and sent back to their states. But who must have authorized their transport from the North to the south, coming without parents and guardians to the South? And again, what is their mission to the South? Who paid their fare and or who chartered the trucks for them?

Where do they have in the southern states to live as they are coming in droves? Another puzzle is how were they able to beat the security architecture on the high way from the Northern states coming to the south? This is where the security agencies are disappointing the people of Nigeria. Again, could it be an agreement among the governors of the North to push those almajiris to the South seeing the coronavirus pandemic is causing trouble for them over there, especially in Kano state?

A few days back, some were discovered at Jattu junction in Auchi area of Edo state coming from the North. They were refused passage into the south. The vigilante there sent them all back to the North.

That was a good decision. But what is their mission to the south at this period of the coronavirus pandemic? But how could youths and children just be moved from a particular state in the North and transported to the South for no just reason? What are they trying to achieve with such move? So many questions with no answer available.

almajiries are a product of an irresponsible society, people with retrogressive and backwards culture, and instead of manning up and taking the responsibilities at this time of corona crises, they are busy still trying to dodge their duties, trying to push their problems to other people.

No almajiris have any legal rights to live in South East; They are not Nigerians, if not why won’t they be shipped home?

All Southern governors should be strict in dealing with issues like this. They can’t enforce lockdown in southern states for almajiris to transport Corona Virus to their state; why the lockdown in the first place?

Please, there is a pandemic so everyone should stay where they are at until W.H.O discovers the approve vaccines because na dogoyaro Madagascar dey drink.

I don't think the Northern Governors have much to gain. The reason you have these almajiris moving southward is because they not Nigerians to start with. Many of them were shipped in from neighboring countries for election purposes, and in which their service is no more needed.

Those that have relatives and are indigents have been taken in by their states while the rest were left to find somewhere to go, and in this case, the south seems to be the 'go to' place for the rejected almajiris.

Now left for the south to do the necessary thing by sending their dirty ass back to those that groomed or imported them.
