Dangote is not going to improve any economy, you can recall same thing was said when he was building cement factories here and there, at last what happened, is the price of cement not even worst, it will only create employment for some but petrol price I doubt.

Dangote Cement in Abeokuta No southerner employed at management Level
Now they give him the oil belonging to the entire nation and he is so bold to call it Dangote refinery
Yoruba are either stupid or cursed
Nigeria would not continue like this, one day the oppression will most definitely end, by then the real suffering of the north will start as they virtually depend on the south for everything, yes I know someone would say they have agriculture, would they consume all they produce? They need our sea to export it , so you see the south is the Lord here, they need crude oil from the south, they had better use their head before it's too late

Why blame Dangote for taking opportunity of a void left by both the Govt and the private sector. The Govt have 4 refineries but fail to produce a single drop of fuel. Aside Dangote, President Jonathan gave some other individuals license to build refineries but they converted it to importation licenses. Is that Dangote fault. Most Nigeria business men want abracadabra money. They invest in imports and exports and telecommunications so as to get quick returns. Dangote invest in the real sector which is manufacturing, which profit is not immediate but exponential when it starts rolling. Dangote is taking risks others avoid so don't blame him. Others have been making billions since the licenses were given while he has been spending billions. Don't hate on him when he start reaping from patience and strategic planning

He's not even having monopoly as people think. Just because he's Nigeria's wealthiest business man doesn't mean he enjoys monopoly too. Other products are more patronized than his. Only just his cement and may be his sugar/salt
his salt is not even number 1 in Nigeria (Mr chef is number 1).....his flour milling business has been recording loss for over three years and he has sold it to olam group... I don't believe he has Monopoly he has just use it big market share in some business like cement and sugar for his benefit and this has hurt Nigerians

The Dangote refinery project would have made some sense in the 70's or early 80s.

At the moment na just one huge gigantic elephant project.

can you just criticize constructively without being tribalism

is it Yoruba that make the that all mineral resources belong to FG and give it (limestone) to dangote?
is it Yoruba that join Nigeria together for us to be in this mess?

can just stop blaming Yoruba for everything as we have done wrong being in the same country?

and besides that are many Southerners in both dangote cement and dangote sugar management team than northerners...if you don't believe go and check their top management on their website

Why must our economy rely solely on one man?

Because you keep voting criminals into governorship and Presidential seat.

I'm happy this fertilizer and refinary is not government owned. Cos with this Covid 19 the project would have been suspended till another five years.
Besides Dangote borrowed funds from international organization to build it. Anyone can do it too if they have collateral funds.
The kaduna and Port Harcourt refinary have turn to cash out machine for corrupt government officials every year. But, they can't go and cash out with a private company. I hope you will complain why Dangote is selling fuel for N60 per litter.

Nigeria has energy problem and nobody is talking about that. By the time Dangote decides to invest in that sector and becomes a major player, you will still complain. This man is helping us.

I listened to Dangote interview some time ago. The dude is mostly targeting the west African neighbors like Benin, Togo and co. The plan was he wanted to augment the government efforts in providing fuels to Nigerians and what is excess he sells to the neighbors. Also, he said he wanted to cover the shortfall in fertilizer and make it affordable to Nigerians thereby eradicating the subsidies been paid by the FG to fertilizer companies to import to meet demand. Really don't see him no making huge profits. He's going to buy crude at the prevailing market price and sell fuels at prevailing market price. Building the refinery has cut out haulage to and fro, export and import charges and all other bureaucratic hitches. It is the importers that will be hard it.

That's not quite correct. There were cement companies in Nigeria before Dangote. The main issue is most of them were government owned and collapsed due to bad management.

The private one owned by wapco/lafarge refused to increase capacity for years in order to keep supply low and prices high. Unfortunately by the time Obajana came on stream with like triple their capacity and Dangote also bought BCC, lafarge could no longer compete effectively and were now playing catch up. As any economist would know, economies of scale play a big role in industry.

As for sugar, we never had any proper sugar refinery in Nigeria before Dangote. That's why we used to have more of cube sugar which was imported compared to granulated. Now granulated is all over the place because of dangote sugar refinery.

As for flour, we also have flour mills of nigeria, which is a big player. So I don't know where all this talk of monopoly comes in. Also for Dangote's new refinery and petrochemical. While there is no competition for refinery, there is large competition in petrochemical and fertiliser from Eleme petrochemical and indorama, which have first mover advantage of many years. However, if dangote is building a plant with say triple indorama capacity, then economies of scale will come in again and dangote may have the upper hand.

Bottom line, this talk of monopoly is overrated and is more akin to beer parlour gist for uninformed minds.

Most so called Nigerian business men prefer easy money. Setting up large scale industry takes a lot of effort and work which most of them don't want to do. They rather do easy government contract, hammer N10bln and keep it in treasury bills to be earning hundreds of millions a year in interest and be making noise all over Nigeria.

Dangote should be hailed for all the industry he has set up and jobs created, both skilled and unskilled. All the thousands of trucks he has, at least people are driving them and earning something.

He is a major stakeholder in MRS Petroleum, which solves that issue. His cousin Sayyu Dantata is the Executive Chairman.

The government has decided to render the existing refineries moribund just so they could help further this dangote agenda. It's unsurprising since most of them are shareholders in this group of companies. Cause I'm yet to understand why the government is so dependent on dangote's refinery in reviving our economy.
Reason this thing abeg, if one man like dangote can single handedly be building the largest refinery in Africa from the scratch. What's making it difficult for the government in reviving the existing refineries and ensuring they work at optimum capacity.
THIS COUNTRY IS A JOKE!!!

Why won't he boost...since Bubu gives him Monopoly of Every consuming things in Nigeria.
Not only Bubu gave him the monopoly essential and indispensable goods,he was given since 99 by OBJ because he was their main campaign financier.

Most Nigerian billionaires robbed we citizens to get their money. For instance, prices of every foreign goods have seriously gone down b4 the advent of covid 19,but the one we produced locally will rather go up or stay still, the price of this common zinc roofing sheet has gone done to 12k b4 covid against 20k that its been selling since three yrs ago.

But the price of bag of cement remained thesame 2500 since when we experienced recession 3yrs ago, upon the fact that we owned the limestone which is the main raw material used, the same is applicable to other commodities being sold by these rogues.

The only good thing about his refinery is that forex will no more overstretched when fully started working thereby having little impact on economy, but we should erased the mind of decrease in price of fuel, this rogue will rather increase the price.
