COVID-19: National Association of Political Science Students expresses pains and warns the Nigerian government on its handling of Covid-19 in the country.

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF POLITICAL SCIENCE STUDENTS, NIGERIA.

PRESS RELEASE ON COVID-19.

The National President of the National Association of Political Science Students, Nigeria. Comr. Osamuyi N. Iyamu, have advised the government on doing a good and convincing job in the fight against the dreaded virus; Covid-19.
He observed that the style in which the government is going about publishing the report on confirmed, discharged and dead cases via the audio report system isn't going down well with the public. That at a time like this, the public needs something virtual to sink the believe of it existence in the country and that is what it focus should be.

In statement released to his Press Secretary,

He said ''with the use of the audio report style of confirmed cases, discharged cases and dead cases, I feel an average man on the street still do not believe that there is Covid-19 in Nigeria. And as a matter of one-to-one conversations with persons, facts gathered so far shows that lots of them do have that notion in their minds"

We have countries like Italy, Spain, USA and so on, that the pandemic is largely dominant in, that the government have gained the trusts and believes of the populace due to the way are manner they are giving their reports on confirmed, discharged and dead cases and people are being wary of that and by themselves taking precautions to avoid contact with the virus. I believe we as a govt and as a country can take a quee from them."
"We definitely have to give to the people what they really deserve to see and know and stop playing them like kindergarten pupils."
"We have to see something to believe something"

On the issue of individuals playing their parts in sensitizing the public on the presence of Covid-19 in the country.
The President has this to say. "In as much as the govt have the major duty of sensitizing the public and fighting the deadly virus. We as individuals also have our parts to play. Just as I tried my best saving my one-to-one contacts of the knowledge on the reality of the virus in the country, so also every other persons with the knowledge have the same duty to sensitize his or her neighbour. Let's not leave the whole duty to the government, we have to play our part in the sensitization." The President said.

The President also registered his displeasure on the issue of how the palliative measures is been carried on.
According to him:
" It is unfortunate that it is only in our country that we are hearing something like the poorest of the poor. Who is not vulnerable this time? Pandemic have made everyone vulnerable " he said.

And on the issue of not having actual data in the distribution of the palliative as claimed by the government.

The President said;
"For the FG to say that they do not have a complete data of the people in the nation is first of all a failure on their part."

He said " if the govt really want to get the number of everyone in Nigeria, they could easily get them from the various Telecom Network providers, PHCN, Banks, NIMC, INEC etc."

He added " We all know in Nigeria that if a politician want to reach out to the populace during campaign, they will do that by disseminating their campaigns through sms from the various network providers, and so I believe that they have no excuse on how to gather their data"
And warned that the govt should try her best not to play politics with the process but rather ensure that it's only the proper thing that is done.

Also, upon analysing the call to ease the lockdown and the unhealthy situation of the aftermath of the ease of the lockdown by the Federal Government, the President warns that ''the government must take caution on any form of aping on countries who are easing their lockdown for the reason of recording a massive recoveries in their Covid-19 victims and to take advisement on the call by the economists to ease the lockdown before it turns to something we'll find so hard to contain.

In his words, the President said ''Nigeria must steer clear following countries that have eased their lockdown due to their massive record of improvement on their Covid-19 victims but rather focus on recording the same height here as those countries."

Given the country's economy, he said "We know very well that no country can survive without a very healthy economic base. Also, we know that no economy of a country can thrive without people with the technical know-how to man the system. If you pose the people before the threat of Covid-19 by easing the lockdown, and the case of Italy is recorded in the process, what's going to be our fate?"

"I believe for the now, our main focus should be on how to scale through this pandemic and strategize ways on revamping the dwindling area(s) of the country's economy." He said.

The President of the National Association of Political Science Students, Nigeria. Comr. Osamuyi N. Iyamu, encourage all NAPSSITES and Nigerians to stay focused, safe and strong for their families and always make sure of adhering to the preventive directives that have been advised by both the government and the NCDC.
He trust that, God in His infinite mercy and appointed time, will heal the land from this deadly virus.

Thank You And May The Almighty God Keep You All Safe And Strong.

God Bless NAPSS Nigeria.
God Bless Nigeria.

Signed:
Comr. Osamuyi N. Iyamu.
