Governors Mandate Network has applauded the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria for making available all its health facilities across the country as treatment centers for COVID-19.

The Network, via its Chairman Earl Osaro Onaiwu described the gesture as "heartwarming and highly exemplary of the Christ-like compassion."

Onaiwu then advised other religious bodies like Winners Chapel, Christ Embassy, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Nigerian Baptist Convention, NASFAT and other mega religious organisations to take a cue from the gesture of the Catholics.

On Monday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, announced that the Catholic Bishop Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has offered all its 425 health facilities across the country as isolation centres for COVID-19 patients.

The donation is coming at a time when the federal government is raising concern over the unavailability of adequate bed spaces to accommodate all COVID-19 patients in the country.

As at the last count, Nigeria has recorded 4641 cases of coronavirus. These include 902 people who have recovered and have been discharged as well as150 deaths.

With the increasing number of cases, the government said it was considering the option of home-care treatment as some states are running out of bed spaces.
