So What Do We Still Say About Education And E-learning by codemint: 9:59pm On May 12, 2020
Education has many tweaks to it, so does learning. The mainstream learning methods is the physical method where teachers meet with students face to face before learning could take place. This routine has been on play till the pandemic struck, making futile the idea of physical form of education. As a matter of fact, e-learning has been there haven gained acceptance but does not record as much usage as the face-to-face form of learning.

E-learning is the form of education that is staged online with the use of internet and electronic devices as opposed to a traditional classroom setting. E-learning can be taken collectively by a group simultaneously or individually. However, one of the highest criticisms that e-learning has got since invention is that it lacks some human elements making it an uncommon form of learning and partially acceptable for education.

A recent study at the University of Jos, Nigeria shows that e-learning is quite accepted as a means to effective education. But the same study recorded significant decline in the number of students using e-learning facilities as their main study medium.

But the world wasn’t saying the same thing about e-learning ever since the pandemic struck this year 2020. A lot that weren’t important suddenly became the most effective and efficient including e-learning.

Homeworking, e-teaching, e-learning and such platforms that offer video conferences and chats have been on top of their game since employees and students alike now leverage the internet resources for knowledge acquisition and task execution respectively.

My take on education and e-learning

E-learning, eve with lacking human elements stands a good chance to substitute the face-to-face pattern of education or learning. A quick example is the corona virus pandemic that has forced everyone to stay at home. And because the world gave less attention to e-learning, it is difficult to pick up the broken pieces of time, where will you start?

In a nutshell, e-learning and face-to-face learning should exist side by side with equal opportunities to serve the education needs of students.

But this means more though, what could it be?

If e-learning and face-to-face methods of education must be given equal patronage, then e-learning facilities must be encouraged in tertiary and secondary institution. Infact in this era, the technological advancements has made it possible for students to learn from their cell phone meaning that teachers too can teach via their cell phones. Learning institutions owe them the obligation to programme conducive online cycle of teaching and learning for students and their teachers.

Those opinions expressed are mine; so you can add yours too.
