If you’re reading this now, you probably have razor bumps on the back of your head which are not so pleasant. You’re also probably wondering how to get rid of them.

Razor bumps, also known as Pseudofollicultis Barbae are normally seen in areas of the body where hair has previously been removed either by shaving, tweezing or waxing. Razor bumps are bumps caused by ingrown hairs that get trapped under the skin.

Ingrown hairs develop when instead of hair growing up and out, starts to grow back into the skin. So after shaving, the hair tends to curl and turn inwards. When new skin cells later grow over the hair, it becomes trapped and this causes a bump to form on a skin (razor bumps).

These bumps develop on any area of the body that is shaved; the head, face, underarms, legs and the pubic area.

However, we’ll be learning on how to get rid of back head razor bumps and a few prevention tips to keep near.

How to treat already existing back head razor bumps

Stop Shaving
First and foremost, you have to stop shaving. You need to take a pause as you need to first resolve existing bumps before you continue with your shaving routine. If you don’t do this, you may cause more problems for yourself.

Note however that tweezers should not be used to pull out “ingrown hairs” as this will only lead to damaged or darkened skin.

Make use of a good skin repair and brightening cream product
This will help resolve skin that is darkened or damaged (caused by shaving). A retinoid product is also a great option and it comes in over- the- counter creams, serums, and cleansers. It is not a quick fix as it takes several weeks before it reaches its full results.

A visit to the doctor to prescribe necessary medications for you might be necessary. This will be a medication that can be applied topically, for example, medications containing hydrocortisone, antibiotics or heavy duty retinoids.

Exfoliate
The importance of exfoliating your skin cannot be overemphasized if you wish to get rid of razor bumps. On the days before your next shaving, exfoliate the affected area; in this case, the back of your head with a gentle scrub to clean out the pores.

Take care to choose an exfoliant that contains glycolic acid and salicylic acid. They both clear out pores and combat ingrown hairs respectively.

Tips to note to prevent razor bumps

To prevent getting back head razor bumps at all, here’s a few tips to note when next you’re shaving your head.

Space out your shaving routine
Try to reduce the frequency of your shaving. I’m not saying don’t shave but I’m saying you should do so with less frequency. This will reduce the risk of hair too short to grow out of the skin and therefore, decrease the risk of ingrown hairs.

Make use of an electric razor
When next you want to shave your head, neck or beards, try using an electric razor on low setting. This will keep the hair slightly longer and not like when you shave very close to the skin. By so doing, the chances that the hair will turn back into the skin are negligible.

Prepare Adequately for razor bumps
This is one important way to prevent incidence of ingrown hairs and razor bumps. The following are steps to take that will help prevent razor bumps:

Cleanse the skin with a product that contains salicylic or glycolic acid. As earlier mentioned, this will clear out pores and remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface.
Ensure you only shave your head when it is very wet. You can either do the shaving during or immediately after a shower. An alternative is to place a wet cloth on the spot for 5 minutes before shaving.
A shaving cream or gel is indispensable. Use one that is specific for your skin type to avoid complications.
Steer clear from skin products that contain ingredients that are irritants. They could make your inflammation worse.
Ensure you only use razors that are fresh, sharp and clean. Clean with alcohol before and after use too to keep it free from bacteria.

Try another hair removal technique to curb razor bumps
Many persons however will rather try out a new hair removal technique than shaving. They may wish to try out hair removal creams or depilatories which dissolve hair and serve to reduce the risks of razor bumps. These are not foolproof though as they contain certain chemicals that may cause irritation to some person’s skin.

For someone with red, sensitive or inflamed skin, they should steer clear from these products.

Another hair removal technique is laser hair removal. Although it requires multiple treatments, the advantage is that when hair grows back later, it grows lighter and finer than before.

In conclusion, bear in mind that razor bumps as annoying as they are, are stubborn and can often last weeks. So when treating, be patient.

No need wondering how to get rid of back head razor heads anymore. With proper care, preparation and healthy skin care routine, your back head razor bumps will clear out in good time and will be a thing of the past.

Each razor was made with a specific purpose. Some for soft skin and soft hair. Some for thicker hair and coarser skin. If there are wounds or cuts with bumps after shaving https://bathroomer.org/best-electric-shaver-for-black-men/ . I think you should change your razor. It's just not right for you. And find one that suits your type. Or maybe you're not shaving properly. In that case get yourself an electric razor for convenience. It'll do everything for you.
