The US knows what the colonial powers learned over a century ago . . . Africa is a money pit. Yes, they have raw materials, but so does the rest of the world.

Africa has a problem supporting its people, it has a problem with government corruption, it has a problem with the legacy of European colonialism (mostly national borders that make no ethnic sense, it has problem of savage internecine warfare, and it has a problem with lingering internal and external racism.

They have lot of problems that they would love some rich outside power to solve for them but it is a bottomless pit as China is finding out.

The US is already heavily mired in the Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East. It is prudently not willing to take on Africa. Africa has long been Europe’s playground and now China want’s a piece. Let those powers deal with Africa immense and expensive political problems. The US just wants to trade with Africa.

Conversely, China doesn't have a lot of the world in which they can play great power politics with their newfound wealth. It’s not that the US has no interest in Africa, it does with a large African-American minority population. But in the long run, Africa really has little upside for the US and a potentially huge downside.

The truth is that China hates Africa. All they have been seen doing are to brainwash and make us camp with them so that they could compete with USA for world power. They already have the economy of the world at hand. But that economy would be crushed and made useless after this pandemic they started. All nations would slap them with sanctions.
