Personal assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media Bashir Ahmed has said on Twitter that "When the second Niger Bridge is completed, it will be a gift that will keep the president in the minds of millions of Nigerians for a very long time".

This statement has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians as some say that "infrastructure is a core responsibility of government and not a gift" while other argue in favor saying "it is a gift since other presidents couldn't do it"

The Second Niger Bridge, a project initiated by former president Goodluck Jonathan has been sustained by the govt of president Buhari.

The project is being developed through a public private partnership involving Julius Berger-NSIA constrium as a design, finance, build, operate and transfer model to cost $653m. The federal govt would contribute $150m while other partners will raise the rest.

The new bridge upon completion will facilitate vibrant commercial exchange for all Nigerians especially in the host south east region.

Poverty rate is high, Nigeria is still in darkness with poor electricity, the roads are death traps, there is high insecurity in the land, there is no clean water, the hospitals are decaying and there are no jobs. But we have a bridge and that is the best gift Buhari has to offer Nigerians?
