Over speeding car tumbles , kills occupant, believed to be driver

A car said to be over speeding on Monday summersulted near Anambra State Government House in Awka.

One of the occupants, believed to be the driver, died on the spot while the other who was rushed to the hospital was critically injured.

The lone crash which occured at about 4.20pm involved a red colour Toyota Avalon, with two occupants inside it.

An eyewitness told our correspondent, "The driver of the vehicle was on top speed. He suddenly lost control, and veered off the road and the car summersaulted four times before land crashing and the driver died on the spot.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, Pascal Anigbo, blamed the accident on overspeeding.

He said one death was recorded in the incident.

He said, "Today Monday 18 May, 2020 a fatal lone road traffic crash was recorded near Government House, Awka on the Awka-Enugu Expressway.

"The vehicle involved was a red colour Toyota Avalon with registration number AKD69AFB. Two male adults were involved in the crash, which was reportedly caused by over-speeding.

"One death was recorded. The dead victim was taken to the morgue by the Red Cross Society.

"FRSC operatives are on ground ensuring free flow of traffic and clearing of obstruction caused by the vehicle which tumbled. The Fire Service are also present to avert possible fire outbreak.

"The Sector Commander Federal Road Safety Corps Anambra State, Andrew Kumapayi condole with the family of the dead. He admonishes motorists to always drive with common sense speed limits and within stipulated speed limits, especially within built-up areas."
