Cameroon Football Legend, Roger Milla, Is Celebrating His Birthday Today by mjbrainiac: 12:28am On May 20, 2020
Roger Milla [Miller], is one of the most iconic players in football’s history.
The former Cameroonian striker is revered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and world’s football governing body, FIFA.
Milla earned himself a place in Pele’s list of the greatest 125 living football players when the Brazilian was asked to pick in 2004.
In 2007, CAF celebrated 50 years of its existence and conducted a poll to determine the best African player since the inception of the organzation — Roger Milla won the prize.

Milla also won the African Player of the year in 1976.

First attempts
Milla played for Cameroon at the 1982 FIFA World cup, he could have had a goal against Peru but his effort was disqualified by the referee.
Cameroon went on to draw the World champions then, Italy, but it was not enough to secure their place in the next round of the FIFA World cup.
The team bowed out of the first round after playing 3 draws in the first three matches.
He won the 1976 African Player of the year award , he participated in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles before called it quit on his international career.

A special phone call from the President of Cameroon, Paul Biya, dragged him out of retirement and off he went to the 1990 FIFA World cup at age 38.
He went on to light up the tournament with four goals despite not starting any of the matches and and became the oldest goal scorer in the history of the World cup.
Milla grabbed a brace in Cameroon’s group stage match against Romania and another [brace] against in the extra time of the round of 16 match against Colombia.

Those extra time goals sent Cameroon into the quarter final of the competition, the farthest any African team as managed at the FIFA World cup before Senegal equalled the feat at the 2002 edition.
Cameroon were behind in the quarter final game against England, Milla stepped up from the bench to set up an equalising goal before giving the central African country the lead from the spot.
England rallied back to win match 3-2, but Roger Milla’s animating celebrations in that tournament will forever be remembered.
The makossa corner flag dance remains one of the most iconic celebration in the football till today.

He's more famous for the corner flag dance. That's as far as I am concerned.

So good that Coke had to include it in their World Cup ad.
