Smoking is a serious risk factor for many infections and respiratory illnesses.

Studies have also shown that smokers are more likely to develop COVID-19 disease than non-smokers.

Covid-19 is a respiratory disease that affects the lungs. Smoking impairs lung function and makes it difficult for the body to fight COVID-19 and other diseases.

Smoking is a risk factor for non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, respiratory disease and diabetes, and puts people at risk for COVID-19.

Existing research shows that smokers are at risk for more serious illness and death.

Although there is currently insufficient information to confirm any link between tobacco or nicotine in the prevention or treatment of COVID-19, the WHO is constantly reviewing the link between tobacco use and COVID-19 and strongly recommends quitting smoking. These include chewing gum, nicotine cracking patches, nicotine replacement therapy, and more.

Within 3 minutes of quitting nicotine, your heart rate and blood pressure drop, and after 3 hours, your blood carbon monoxide levels return to normal.

After 3 to 6 weeks, blood pressure is regulated and lung function improves, and after 4 to 3 months, coughing and shortness of breath are reduced.
