it's really difficult, many customers especially of Apple have become addicts,it's like the Benz syndrome,if you leave Apple or Benz, where will you go to?

Guess that explains why all ads I used to get in the past were x-rated stuff and fancy gadgets currently (no thanks to jumia and AliExpress) but still, you'd still be monitored by other tech companies via their apps and I review my activity and data to see if there's any anomaly whatsoever, only one is my YT watch history, there's no avoiding that.
Yea, only solution is to live a dignified life. You never know when they'll be hacked or they might even decide to sell you data.

Samsung?
At least most Apple users withdraw to Samsung or these days OnePlus, but mostly Samsung but you're right. It'll be hard for them to adapt to a change not part of their ecosystem and I don't blame them much for that.

cool
as long as your browser use cockies.. forget it your data are being tracked..
Yes but note that, there are different kinds of cookies as well.

Persistent cookie, Zombie cookie, Session cookie, Third-party cookie, Secure cookie, Tracking cookie, etc.

For example, the session cookie exists only in temporary memory while the user navigates the particular website.
Web browsers normally delete session cookies when the user closes the browser.

Nairaland uses the secure cookie (HTTPS), coupled with the persistent cookie. The secure cookie encrypts your cookies making them less likely to be exposed to cookie theft via eavesdropping.

The persistent cookie is used for keeping users logged into their accounts on websites, to avoid re-entering login credentials at every visit.

a simple test to show you can be track any time, is if you continue watching a particular style of porn on a porn site.. let say miakhalifa doggy style.. soon the site would record your I.P and tailor first page porn according to your preference, they wont show you gay porn, and would display atleast several mia khalifa porn
Yes, just like an online store, it is possible to use tracking cookies to recommend products for consumers.

However, that is a bit far-fetched because a persistent cookie could do the trick. Legally speaking, a persistent cookie is what is used by most sites, to protect the user's information.

You could however turn a persistent cookie to a tracking cookie. In other words, a persistent cookie is basically a tracking cookie, but with its potential hidden.

The server not only sends the page as usual but also stores the URL of the requested page, the date/time of the request, and the cookie in a log file.
By analyzing this log file, it is then possible to find information such as: what pages the user has visited, in what sequence, and for how long.

I still wonder if Nairaland uses the same method to ban alternate accounts based on Rule 19, but it seems like a long process just for one person.

Anyone with access to Nairaland's server (admin) could easily fish alternates out, all sharing the same IP address, that's if different devices aren't used anytime you want to log in

Let's not also forget the power of VPN, spoofers and proxies grin
Incognito mode in web browsers is also good, but not effective and advisable if you seek total anonymity. It can still be infiltrated and seen/tracked by your ISP.

Most web browsers also have security flaws.

Simple application of this privacy breach is how FBI tracked Invicticus Obi, because he used the same phone and IP address and Mac address to log in a scam email account and also logged in on Nairaland and foolishly place a vacancy putting his personal email open using an I.P that had being flagged
It was easy, believe me grin.
A walk in the park.
They just needed enough evidence.
The CIA have caught bigger threats that were far more hidden than that.

Most cookies only store IP addresses though. It suffices.
MAC addresses are basically network addresses. Not to be mistaken, it could be still sought for.
A cookie can also be used to store IP and MAC addresses.

The ISP is also in possession of MAC addresses, as well.

If Invictus truly logged into NL, hell, even Se.un can track him if he knows what he's doing grin

Oga was probably using the internet freely sef.
I doubt if he tried to protect himself at all grin grin

Sorry o, this quote long sha; but before I forget, did Invictus actually log into NL?
How did you know it wasn't a fake troll account?

privacy data management is big business my friends, that's why many guys stay off the grid, no phones, wristwatches or radio.

the moment you start uploading profile pictures, that is the moment they will catch you.

sense of sight, touch, hearing, weight, intuition are all what their AI (artifival intelligence) have mastered. its only smell that it hasn't. and I now hear they use dogs for that.

like guys above said , the worst among them all is Google, she is like the devil, if you enter an ant hole, she will know.

that's a smoke screen... if it was that's easy then just turning off your location should have work the magic. All Big Tech companies need these user data to improve and stay in the game .

It wasn't a long quote actually.. this are the kind of mind stimulating comment we need on nairaland ..

On Invicticus he actually posted a thread seeking website developers and graphics designers to hep him develop a website for his Abuja real estate company, and he foolishly dropped an email that had already being flagged... the whole stupidity on his side was contained in his FBI charge sheet, and his defense lawyers are banking on claiming his privacy was violated hence any eveidence gathered cant hold.. this was why he was granted bail

good points. How are phones tracked even when it has been flashed and sim removed.

Phones cant be tracked if you flash it from a PC and install new ROM and also generate and new IMEI ..

IMEI is what they use in tracking a wiped phone and almost all Nigerian Police State Command has the device to track it in case of stolen phone and kidnapping.. but once you change your IMEI you are free...

If you own a business and start misbehaving to the point of losing customers, will investors be calling on you or answering you?
Before we go the "Apple is a trillion dollar company so it won't affect them" or they could focus elsewhere and still make it, the consumers are the ones they make the products for, not for themselves. You know what happened with them deliberately slowing down older iPhones to force it's customers to upgrade eh... No one wants to be controlled and if this privacy ish gets out of hand, forget it they won't be at the top and that bad rep will stay with them.
And do remember the developed countries and Nigeria aren't the same, if they don't like what's being done they let them corporations know and take necessary actions.

I would rather trust my data with apple than LAMedroid, apple was taken to court for refusal to unlock a terrorist phone besides thia data here is completely false, even apple doesn't know the password to your device, its all encrypted

Yesterday there was a thread about loan companies using and hacking via ppls data collected but this same apple refused loan apps on ios store.

google is worse, all android users thinks its a small tin to be the product, at least apple is not into the ad business so even if they collect data it is to improve user experience but talk about google that even said it that they need the data to keep selling android fones cheap. In life any successful logo always have alot of enemies and i am sure this move ia by androids coz recently iPhone sales has been going up especially now ppl have realized that big screen phones are nothing if not increasing stress.
