While we await the launch of the Google Pixel 5, we have been seeing leaks and rumors about the device. The latest report about the upcoming Pixel 5 is that it will use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 768G chipset instead of the flagship Snapdragon 865 chip.

This information was reported by PhoneArena. According to the source, Google is opting for the Snapdragon 768G because of the high cost of using the Snapdragon 865. The price of Snapdragon 865 phones are generally very high. If a manufacturer uses this chip with the Snapdragon X55 5G modem, the cost of the phone increases significantly. This cost is then borne by the customers.

If the Google Pixel 5 indeed uses the Snapdragon 768G chipset, this would be the first time that the Pixel digital series uses Qualcomm’s 7-series chip. Google has been known to use the flagship 8-series processors in its Pixel devices.

This is not to say that the Snapdragon 768G is a bad chip. The chip is built on a 7nm process and uses Kryo 475 CPU Prime cores. Its clock frequency is up to 2.8GHz, an increase from the Snapdragon 765G’s 2.4GHz. The chip uses the Adreno 620 GPU. Its graphics card supports Adreno’s updateable GPU driver. This makes the Snapdragon 768G the first 7-series chip to do so.

In terms of connectivity, the Snapdragon 768G chip comes with improved Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with 2.4GHz and 5GHz simultaneously. It supports up to Bluetooth 5.2, an improvement over the 765G’s 5.0 version.

The Google Pixel 5 is expected to start at $699. If this is indeed true, then the device probably even stands no chance of sporting the Snapdragon 865, not with that price tag.

The SD 768g Is still a very good midrange chip in 2020. Maybe they plan on making it a more affordable midrange phone.

Affordable does not go with any Qualcomm 5g SoC. Those things are pricey from the factory and manufacturers need to make their profits

You mean the top bezel? tbh, I prefer this than the Notch, be it teardrop, punchhole and even the pop up camera type.
