Happy Children's Day to every Nigerian child. May you all live to
see a bright and happy future. To celebrate the day with you, here
is a poem I wrote sometime ago. I was motivated to write the
poem after seeing some students of Abadina College, University
of Ibadan, playing boisterously as they walked home. Their gay
and happy play brought back nostalgic memories of my days at
the prestigious Baptist Boys' High School, Saje, Abeokuta. The
poem is titled 'When you are young' :


When you are young,
Life is one big adventure.
You can turn left, you can turn right
Seeking your own path.

You can bask in your rising sun
Like the budding tulip flower
And look at yonder years with dreamy eyes
To a pleasant future.

But life travels fast on time wings
So toil hard while your bones are young
For the sun set at dusk
When no man can work.
