Children are special gifts. They brighten our existence. It’s not for nothing that Nigeria and the rest of the world set aside days to celebrate all that they mean to us every year.

To commemorate this year’s Children’s Day, smartphone for everyone brand, itel Mobile and broadcast media outfit, NTA Channel 10 Lagos organized a special writing competition for children of school ages. The competition put the writing skills of the young participants to test and focused on two topics – The Impact Of The Internet On Education and Effect Of Extracurricular Activities On Children Development.

About 750 children submitted entries for the competition themed NTA/itel Essay Writing Competition. Six winners - three each in the junior and senior categories - emerged from the long list of submitted entries.

"The need to preserve itel Mobile’s culture of celebrating children informed our support for the competition. This activity is a bit different from what we have done in the past, but we are pleased with the impact it has created among our young leaders in partnership with NTA. It’s the best gift we can give to them (children) at this time, "says Marketing Communications Manager (West Africa 1), itel Mobile, Oke Umurhohwo, on the competition held to celebrate this year's edition.

Driven by itel Mobile's 'Love Always On CSR Initiative', winners in each category of the competition received cash prizes, school bags, notebooks, pen & pencil cases, among other souvenirs.

First established by the United Nations in 1964, Children’s Day considers the celebration of childhood. The day permits tributes and is classified as an important day in the lives of children.
