(1) INCEPTION

The plot revolves around Dom Cobb and his team of operatives who enter into people’s subconscious and steal their ideas. For their latest mission, they are assigned with the task of planting an idea inside someone’s head instead of stealing it. The idea must be planted deep enough in the victim’s brain so that he starts to believe that he thought of it himself.

The only problem is, if they go too deep in his thoughts, there is a risk that they will be stuck in limbo inside the dream world, without any chance of coming back. Knowing all the risks, how far will they go? The deeper they venture, the more they risk never waking up again.

While Inception is far from perfect, it’s certainly ambitious and courageous. Don’t worry too much about the plot and spoilers. It’s so complicated that you won’t get all of it from watching it once. It’s worth watching a couple of times.

(2) Source code

A lot of movies waste time getting to the point. But Source Code, directed by Duncan Jones, gets straight to the crux of the matter.

It feels as if there is no beginning— there is a middle part, and then one of the most delightful cinematic endings I have ever seen. The movie starts with Colter Stevens, a US military pilot who wakes up on a train to Chicago only to find out that he’s in someone else’s body. The last thing he remembers is his plane crashing after an encounter with Afghan militants. How did he get here?

As he tries to come to terms with everything that’s happening, a bomb detonates and everything ends. To his horror, he finds himself in an even more perplexing situation: He is injured, immobilized, and in some sort of cockpit. Was the train real? Or is this real?

(3) Predestination

A temporal agent (Ethan Hawke) embarks on a final time-traveling assignment to prevent an elusive criminal from launching an attack that kills thousands of people.
As his last assignment, a temporal agent is tasked to travel back in time and prevent a bomb attack in New York in 1975. The hunt, however, turns out to be beyond the bounds of possibility.

(4) Fractured

After his wife and injured daughter disappear from the emergency room, a man becomes convinced the hospital is hiding something, was the hospital hiding something or was it just his mind playing tricks

(5) Shutter Island

Shutter Island is one of the best psychological thrillers to come out in decades. It messes with your mind and leaves you guessing for a long time after the credits roll. You’ll feel like you are in the driver’s seat for the most part as the lead investigates to find out more about an escaped convict, but the ending will compel you to question if the enemies are heroes and vice versa. It’s packed with enough twists and turns to make you dizzy! Can you figure it out on your own?

It’s a whole different experience when you watch it for the first time. You’ll look at everything from a different viewpoint this time around. It’s a mind-bender all the way through.

(6) The prestige

The Prestige is one of the best works of director Christopher Nolan (who also directed Memento and Inception). The plot revolves around two rival magicians whose friendly competition devolves into a fierce battle. They sabotage each other’s performances on stage and when one of them finally manages to perform the ultimate illusion, the other delves deep to disclose the secret behind it, with unforeseen repercussions. Their intense rivalry turns them into murderers, jeopardizing the lives of everyone around them.

The movie begins like a camera out of focus and the plotline flips forward and backward in time, making everything more puzzling. It all seems so random until the last few minutes when everything finally starts falling into place. The Prestige will agitate you, but you will love it.

(7) The fountain

The assumption behind the story is pretty simple: A man is hopelessly trying to save his wife from dying. And that’s where the simplicity ends.

The whole story takes place in three different times – past, future, and future. As these three stories are interwoven, three different men represent one man’s pursuit. Are you confused? Get used to it.

( Donnie Darko

A parallel universe has been created by mistake, which could mean the end of the real world if it doesn’t collapse safely. Donnie, a troubled teenage boy, finds himself vested with all the powers to get the job done. This is his world where he can make and break rules to save the real world from collapsing.

Who is Donnie Darko? What kind of name is that? Maybe he is a superhero. Maybe he is just like us. He could be brilliant, or he could be insane. What is real and what is not? This movie is going to compel you to find answers to all these perplexing questions by yourself.
