The Jakande government had already awarded a contract for a subway system before Buhari’s coup truncated it. Matter of fact Buhari’s regime still went ahead to pay 70% of the contract sum as penalty for cancelling the contract!
Did the initiators of the project and the contractors not know back in 1982 that the “water table is too low for underground tunnels”?

we are not advanced enough for an underground tunnel pls, common drainage issues we can't fix, is underground tunnel you want to do and do you know how many buildings will have to go because of the tunnels, you can go build tunnels in a developing city but not in a too densely, poor drainage system city like Lagos

Yes.

Just let it solve a problem, users will fund it.

They already pay toll gate fees along airport road for no problems being solved

What will it cost to build good drainage and decongest Lagos

While I want to agree with you, a tunnel is currently being built under densely populated London. You should see the extent they go to to protect buildings above ground though.

Trillions In dollars. Far more than the entire Nigerian budget.

but I use to think tunnels can be dug very deep under the earth with considerable measurements that will not affect surface buildings..just asking beo

Too low or too high?

I don't think that makes it an Engineering impossibility but is likely to make the cost prohibitive.

The Eurotunnel from London to Europe passes through the sea.

An underground Metro system would cost billions of dollars and be very disruptive.
Many houses would have to be destroyed and the cos of compensation alone would be insane

An overground metro is the rational choice
