How to Recover Deleted Files

If you've ever inadvertently deleted a folder or erased a file's content, you realize it can be deeply annoying but it is even more frustrating when there's something you've been working on for days or months. Luckily the deletion of a file wouldn't have been the end of the planet. The file is simply hidden in the recycling bin in certain instances, and it can be quickly recovered.

Check the Recycle Bin

Just open the Recycle Bin and you'll see all the inside. Have you come across what you believed you'd deleted? Just drag it straight onto your computer, and you're fine to go. If it isn't in your recycle bin then you can try to restore a lost data with a variety of other items. Hopefully, you did backup copies. If so, an older version of your file can be restored in backup via the recovery program. It may be a day old but losing a day is better than losing everything.

Check File History

Lets hope you have already turned on File History Backup if you are not doing backups. Click the Start button if you are running Windows 10, and then add a drive from Backup option under updates and drives settings. You can select an external drive or a network location just to create a backup.

To restore the document or folder that is missing: Type Restore files in the taskbar search box, select Restore files option. Search the file you want and use the markers to display all variations of it. If you locate the version you just want, click Restore. Right-click Restore to save it and select a new destination.
