On our journey to compile the most accurate list of shortest football players of all time, we came across plenty of inaccuracies and historical evidence to make this a challenging proposition.



The criterion for selection was that the footballer had to have played some sort of professional football during their career. This would be fitting to answer the eternal question.

In this segment, we take a look at 5 of the shortest players of all time.

1. Elton Jose Xavier Gomes



Height: 1.54 m ( 5 feet 0.63 inches)

Date of birth: 7 April 1986

Country: Brazil

Elton Jose Xavier Gomes stands at 1.54m, which puts him at an incredible height of 5 feet 1 inch. He currently plays as an attacking midfielder or left midfielder for Clube de Regatas Brasil in the Brazilian Campeonato Brasileiro Serie B.

He started his football career with Corinthians in 2004. After enjoying a loan spell at Sao Caetano in the 2006 season, he left Corinthians in 2007. He signed for Steaua Bucuresti in 2007 but did not stay there for long. That same year, he moved to Saudi Arabia outfit, Al – Nasr, where he stayed till 2009.

From Al – Nasr, he went gallivanting around, signing for a series of club sides which include Fortaleza, Dubai Club, Sport Recife, Al – Fateh, Mesaimeer, Al – Qadisiyah, before finally settling down at CRB. He tops our list of the shortest footballers in the world.

2. Daniel Alberto Villalva Barrios



Height: 1.54 m (5 feet 0.63 inches)

Date of birth: 6 July 1992

Country: Mexico

Daniel Alberto Villalva Barrios is 1.54 m (5 feet 0.63 inches) tall and is at no. 2 on our list of the top 10 shortest soccer players. He is from Argentina and is a striker for Mexican club Querétaro. Villalva is the shortest player in the team and was also the youngest player to play for River Plate.

He is 21 years old and has also played for Argentina in the 2009 U-17 World Cup. Despite his small body he has been able to come up as a competent footballer the team could ever have. He is definitely the youngest and the shortest soccer player in 2020.
