Shocking news! Lagos state dropped down the daily COVID-19 infection table. No, they are not even second on the table. Abia state topped the table yesterday night with a personal record of 67 new cases while Lagos recorded just 38 cases. The NCDC announcements have been predictable for the last few weeks but last night deviated from the norm. We have grown used to Lagos state recording over 100 new cases per day and they have been rightly tagged the COVID-19 infection capital. However, with just 38 new cases recorded yesterday and a drop to third on the 24 hours' table behind Abia and FCT, we can't help but wonder if this is a sign of things to come. Some of the reasons Lagos state has been ahead of the pack are due to the superior testing capacity, population congestion in the state, the presence of an international airport among others. Lagos has been the frontrunner in terms of preparedness, handling, and resources to tackle the virus. So, imagine our surprise that it lost its spot to Abia state; a state with significantly fewer resources in comparison.
