This news report published today is the sort of redemptive and uplifting tale that should be told more often, in our troubled world, especially now that the plight of the American black race once again takes center stage.

Todd Winn is an honorably discharged US marine who earned TWO Purple Heart awards for heroism in combat, and who probably forged some of the strongest ties of his life, during his military service, when many of his brothers-in-arms during the hell that is war, were black troopers, any of whom would have done all it took to save his life during the ferocity of a firefight or ambush. Todd Winn stood at attention in searing heat of June, until his shoes literally melted off his feet, all in protest of racial injustice in America, the land he clearly loves so deeply.

It is self-evident that Marine Corps combat veteran Todd Winn, was either brought up to judge people by their conduct and not their race, or learned in the theater of war that there can be no room for petty racism among fellow soldiers facing a common enemy. Whatever it is that motivated Todd Winn to undertake this silent vigil in the burning summer sun, must be assumed to have some linkage to his war experience as a front line soldier.

God bless America. There is hope for a better future, even at this darkest hour of turmoil and pestilence, for there are many more men and women of comparable caliber, but in all professional callings including and beyond beyond the military, who will, individually and collectively steer the great nation of America, into calmer waters.
