Industrial automation can be defined as the use of control devices such as Personal Computer (PC), Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), Distributed Control System (DCS) etc. to control industrial processes and machines to reduce or replace a human being.
Automation engineers design, program, simulate and test automated machinery and processes in order to complete exact tasks. They typically are employed or required in manufacturing or food processing industries, where robots or machines are used to perform specific functions.
Nowadays, production lines in the manufacturing industries are automated with the aid of PLC, sensors, actuators etc. Automation engineers are required for the wiring, programming and troubleshooting of such system. Some of the qualities an automation engineer should have include:
*Good understanding of computer programming.
* Knowledge of electrical control components.
*Ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and perform complex system tests etc.
In my next post, I will be sharing on how to become an industrial automation expert/engineer but before then you can view some hands on/practical based training relating to industrial automation at https://www.showlight.com.ng/training.html
