Anything can sell.

Any product, any service, any business, any personality can sell.

The big question is, can you sell?

The problem is not with “what your are selling”, the problem is with “how you are selling”.

Cocaine is a billion dollar business in the world. But cocaine is illegal.

Pornography is also a billion dollar industry. But society frowns at sexual perversion.

Let me bring it down to Nigeria. Everyone hates Bobrisky, but the personality she has sold makes her millions and millions.

The Nigerian society detests Naira Marley but he still gets endorsements and his songs still sell.

So how come they are making this much success?

Simple. They KNOW how to SELL.

See ehn, If you know how to sell, you can even sell Hell Fire and people will buy

Selling is just being able to program people to give you their money.

Just as phones are programmed to make and receive calls.

If you can program people to give you their money, they will ALWAYS give you their money.

*************************************************

From now till the next seven days, I’ll be sharing with you several ways you shouldn’t be selling.

A lot of people sell the wrong way that’s why they are struggling to make sales.

I’ll be sharing with you some of these wrong selling habits.

These wrong selling habits are the reason you are struggling with sales. If anyone applies to you, correct it and you’ll see an upturn in your sales.

This applies to whatever it is you are selling; a product or service or skill. Whatever it is you’re selling, it is very much applicable to it.

What I’m about to share with you is what I learnt the hard way. I wouldn’t want you to learn the hard way too.

But before I dive in, it’s important you note this shouldn’t substitute professional advice on sales.

I’m sharing my experiences in the selling space. You can either take it, or sieve it. Take what works for you and leave out the rest.

I’ll be sharing each one of them daily for the next seven days. Endeavor to key in.

How Not To Sell #1:

Don’t Sell to Everybody

This is where a whole lot of people get it wrong.

Selling to everybody is actually selling to nobody.

You can’t build a strong customer base by tossing your products or services at the faces of everybody.

There’s a reason Target Market exists.

Target market exists so you can streamline your focus to people who are interested in what you offer.

Sadly, most people don’t even have a target market.

They ain’t got the slightest idea who their ideal customer is or what they even look like.

This is a very wrong approach to selling.

Having no target market leaves you with the Hope Market.

You put up your product or service on your status and Hope people make a purchase.

Or you send out unsolicited sales messages to everyone on your contact list and once again hope they make a purchase.

Hope market won’t give you big money. You won’t make explosive sales from them.

You’ll only make a couple of sales, that’s it.

If you want to keep selling, you’ll have to define your market.

Who are the ones mostly likely interested in your offer?

Reach out to them. Sell to them.

You can’t sell designer clothes in rural areas, they’ll not take you serious. They can’t afford your clothing.

The market for your designer clothes are rich people and they are not found in rural areas.

Stop selling to everybody. Know your market.

How Not to Sell #2

Stop Pitching, Start Building

How about you put your everyday pitching on hold and start building a loyal customer base.

Everyday you’re screaming buy this buy that, if you buy this I’ll give you that, buy this and get that for free.

Stop already!

People really hate being sold to.

You’ll have to lure them into buying.

And that can’t happen if you’re too salesy.

How about you quit with the “right now” mentality and adopt the “for future purposes” mentality.

Stop thinking short term, think long term.

Take out time to build competence. Build credibility. Build rapport with your potential customers.

Make them want to hand you their money without fuss.

That’s how you can keep selling.

Share real value with them for free. What’s bothering them? Ask them questions and give them the answers they yearn for.

Go beyond just putting up your product or service for sale every other day.

Try and steal the heart of your audience. Make them fall in love with you.

In fact, seduce them.

When you show people you don’t need their money, you’ll get their money.

Always trying to sell shows you’re in dire need of money.

It portrays desperation. And this will certainly put your audience off.

Stop pitching, start building.

If you do this, even the devil won’t stop you from making massive sales over and over again.

How Not to Sell #3:

Don’t Sell What You THINK the Market Want, Sell What the Market Want

This is done a whole lot.

We see a product or a skill to acquire, then we assume the market will surely want it.

When choosing what to sell: a product or service, eliminate yourself from the picture.

I know you’re smart and intelligent. I know you’re a great thinker.

But that wouldn’t be needed here.

Focus on the market.

Is it something they want? Find out. Don’t assume.

Let me share a personal story.

In January I published a book that revealed how scammers operate.

I assumed people will want to learn about scam because they wouldn’t want to fall victim.

I mean, who wants to lose their hard earned money to scammers? Nobody. That means people will buy.

How wrong I was.

Till date, I’ve not sold even one copy of that book (three books actually) even with the fierce marketing I did.

Sad thing is, it took me over 5 months to put the books together and I spent over 100k on them; promotions and all.

My time, my money all gone with the wind

This happened because I worked with assumptions.

I forgot the Market is the boss and I went on to do what I wanted without their consent and permission.

The end result... I got fired!

If you want to keep selling, you must sell what the market wants.

How do you know what the market wants?

When people complain, when they show dissatisfaction, when they wish for something, there’s something they want. Find out what it is.

Google trends can show you what people are searching everyday. You can discover what people really want with it.

Clarity and details is the thing.

How Not to Sell #4:

Don’t Sell What EVERYONE is Selling

Selling what everyone is selling is stressful.

You’ll have to keep fighting for space and relevance in the over crowded marketplace.

Also, if they aren’t adding much value to the marketplace, you’ll be seen in the same light.

No offense intended, the average Nigerian politician (or government official) is stereotyped a thief.

They’ve been noted to always steal funds.

It doesn’t matter if there are exceptions (which there are anyway).

That’s what the public see them as, and that sticks.

Same applies here.

It’s going to take an extra effort from you to convince the market you’re different.

Which, for the most part, would really be a hard nut to crack.

If you may know, the market a very much unforgiving.

It takes nothing more than an one bad or even average delivery to cancel a brand/business.

Then imagine a replication of that by different people.

Everyone in that line of business will be cancelled.

The only time you can really do well in a saturated market is if you’ve got an influence already.

If your business/brand is known for massive value. It doesn’t matter what you sell, people will beg to buy.

But if you’re just starting out, it’ll do you much good not to sell what everyone is selling.

Don’t join the bandwagon of people selling kuli-kuli. Go and package chin-chin and sell.

Less competition. More market.

That way, you stay atop your selling game.
