Hepatitis B is a serious liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus (HBV) . The virus is passed from person to person through blood,semen or other body fluids. It doesn't spread by sneezing or coughing. For some people, hepatitis B infection becomes chronic, meaning it lasts more than six months. Having chronic hepatitis B increases ones risk of developing liver failure,liver cancer or Cirrhosis,is a condition that permanently scares of the liver. How does contract hepatitis B (1) One can contract it through sex,if you have unprotected sex with an infected person (2) Sharing of needles ,syringes contaminated with infected blood (3)Accidental needle sticks (4) From mother to unborn child Symptoms of hepatitis B Signs and symptoms of hepatitis B ranges from mild to severe. They usually appear about one to four after one has been infected, although you could see them as early as two weeks post infection. Some people usually young children may not have any symptoms.
