The World Health Organisation officially declared Nigeria polio virus-free on Thurday 18.

In a statement on its verified Twitter handle the organization said the terrible disease was at the moment endemic in only two countries, and therefore bringing the world a major step closer to achieving the goal of ending polio for good.

Nigeria was said to have received the declaration after completing documentation which was accepted by the African Regional Certification Commission for polio eradication.
