Practical Emotional Intelligence In The Workplace offers real solutions to the myriads of human-related challenges that many managers or leaders are confronted with in their organizations or workplaces.

There are many challenges confronting a manager or a leader in the organization. These challenges are: economic problems like:limited resources, low sales turnover; technological problems like: rapid technological change, obsolescence and sociological problems like labour turnover, low staff motivation and so on.

However, of all these challenges, there is none that is as daunting as sociological challenges. This owes to the fact that human resource is the most unpredictable. Human beings have emotions and emotions cannot be accurately predicted. People respond toward an object or situation differently. However, a good leader should be able to understand his emotions as well as those of his team with a view to understanding why people behave the way they do.

If there is any book that clearly identifies emotional pitfalls among different kinds of people in an organization with a view to proffering practical solutions to these pitfalls, it is Practical Emotional Intelligence In The Workplace. The book identified ten groups of people that a good manager must handle with care, tact and wisdom if he must succeed.

For example, one of the ten groups you would get to see in the book is the Aarons. These are people who lack self confidence but are very good at working behind the scenes. They are policy formulators or generators of new ideas but are very weak at implementing even their own ideas. Managers of these people need wisdom to make them contribute maximally to the growth of the organization.

The book is not suggesting that there are only ten people in any organization. It is saying that, no matter how big or small an organization is, the people’s emotional make-up can be summarized or categorized into ten groups. Every single member of the organization would perfectly fall into at least, one of the ten categories.

The book is very rich both in content and in context and the lessons in it are not taught in business schools. Therefore, every leader whether in private or public sector, secular or religious sphere, would find this book helpful for effective decision making.
