Nigeria is among one of the poorest countries globally.
According to Wikipedia at 2020 the upper poverty line of Nigeria is N395.41 per day. Whereas, that of The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in 2019 stated it is N137,430 a year which is N375.5 per day.

Let's even assume it is N400 per day. I doubt if this poverty line is considered extensively.

For one to be above poverty line, one must be able to provide the minimum means of ones basic need namely food, clothing and shelter.

A poverty line of at most N400 is well below a standard poverty line. Ordinarily, what a N400 can afford daily will be a two square meal for an average Nigerian citizen whether you buy or cook considering the total cost.

Other essential cost like clothing and shelter aren't even considered. When in fact should be around #150 per day. (This is just to the barest minimum) With the average cheapest house rent in Nigeria to be around N36k a year for a single room.

In a developed country like in the United States, in 2020 the poverty threshold for a single person under 65 was an annual income of US$12,760 meaning that a daily income of $34.86 per day.

(On average what a $4 can do in the US is what a $1 can do in Nigeria.)
Equating this to the cost of living in Nigeria will be around $8.72 daily which is N3,375.95 as at today.
And from my own personal calculations the appropriate poverty line should be below and at least N1500 a day.

The point is this, those in charge of creating a poverty line in Nigeria should stop miscalculation and should not deceive us again, as the appropriate poverty line for an average Nigerian citizen should be well above N400 daily.

If this was not so, then all most all Nigerians will be above the poverty line because an average Nigerian worker earns more than N400 daily.
