Police Parades 24 Suspects Who Defrauded Nigerians Of Covid19 Relief Funds. by Ababbio: 11:46pm On Jun 22, 2020
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command has on June 22, paraded 24 people for cybercrime and other related offences.

The suspect arrested by the police operatives comprises of 23 males and one female.

According to the police Operatives, the suspects were arrested for; involvement and indictment in cases of romance and online dating scams, generating and deployment of fake bank alert, hacking and fraudulent transfer, and cyber stalking and impersonation of high-profile personality in Nigeria and worldwide.

Items recovered from them includes, 11 Laptop computers, 37 mobile phones, 11 SIM cards of different telecommunication networks, 5 international passport, 12 ATM cards, fake US dollar notes and quantities of dry leaves suspected to be marijuana.

Among the 23 suspects were 3 brothers, from the same parents. Notable among them is a-28-year-old Matthew Ushie, who graduated from Federal polytechnic Oko, he was arrested for running fake Frank Mba foundation bank account with FCMB and a facebook page, he used these two accounts to defraud innocent Nigerians of their had earned monies, under the pertext that the foundation is raising money to help vulnerable Nigerians during the covid19 pandemic.

According to the police, arrest of Henry Ushie in Anambra state on June 11, led to the arrest of his two brothers, Emmanuel and Matthew, whom the police had earlier lunch manhunt for.

Henry was arrested by IRT in 2017 for impersonating late Chief of Staff to the president, Aba Kyari, who was the Chairman IRT and defrauded Nigerians. He was charged to court but eventually granted bail and went back to the same crimes.

However, the inspector General of Police, Abubakar Adamu, assured Nigerians that the force will not relent in it efforts to ensure the country get rid of all forms of crimes and criminality including cybercrime.

He also urged everyone to redirect to positive utilization of cyberspace, cyber resources and social media and shun relative negative influences.
