N2.3trillion Approved By Nigerian Govt As COVID-19 Stimulus by onyeka76(m): 7:36am On Jun 25, 2020
The Federal Executive Council, FEC, has approved the sum of N2.3trillion as COVID-19 stimulus plan.

The approval comes as a support to the country’s economy in view of the coronavirus pandemic.



The sum comes based on the recommendation of the Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo-led Economic Sustainability Committee.

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, made the announcement in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to Ahmed, the agreement was made at a virtual meeting of the FEC presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.



“The total package that we presented today is in the sum of N2.3 trillion, N500billion of this is a stimulus package that is already provided for in the amended in the 2020 Appropriations Act. These are funds that we have sourced from special accounts.

The NESP is a 2.3 Trillion Naira stimulus plan to mitigate the ongoing economic challenges occasioned by the historic COVID-19 pandemic.

The Committee that prepared the NESP was set up by President Buhari, and chaired by Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, Made up of a number of Cabinet Ministers, and held extensive consultations with NASS, EAC, and State Governors.

Goals of the NESP:

- Create jobs
- Put money into the economy to hopefully stop it slipping into recession,
- Support small businesses
- Prioritize local content (Made-in-Nig)

I trust all these is to make the life of Nigerians easier because ethics pandemic has affected livelihoods. The proposed plan will also help the economy of the country.

With this, there will be
- more job creation
- increase in local production
- access to low interest loans
- support for small business owners,,, and other benefits.
All these are ways of sustaining our Economy.
