Windows 10 Version 2004 Bug Causes System Tray Icons To Dance On The Screen by robertclaytonn: 9:31pm On Jun 26, 2020
If your device has already been updated to Windows 10 version 2004, or May 2020 Update, and you noticed an unusual animation for the system tray icons, well… that’s not something that’s happening on purpose. And certainly, you’re not the only one seeing it.

This is actually a bug that affects the Windows 10 system tray icons and which causes some sort of jiggling at random times, and according to some users, it all started after the upgrade to version 2004.

At this point, it’s believed that the whole thing is caused by the touch screen drivers, so yes, it’s happening on devices where a touch screen is available.

Several users have confirmed in this reddit thread that the same thing occurred on their devices too, and most claim it’s only happening in Windows 10 version 2004.
How to (try to) fix the bug

So what are your options now that this bug happens occasionally and Microsoft is yet to come up with a fix?

There are basically two ways to go.

First, you need to update your touch screen drivers, of course, if a newer version is available. If it is, then make sure that you install it as soon as possible, as this is likely a problem caused by bad drivers. If updating the drivers or a newer version isn’t available, then the only workaround is actually disabling the touch screen completely.

You can do this from Device Manager, and while this isn’t the most convenient approach, it seems to be the only way to prevent the dancing icons from showing up once again.

Some say that toggling tablet mode options on and off also resolve the problem temporarily, so you could give this workaround a try as well, especially if nothing else works.
