I don't see what the governor has to do with this.... Ugwuanyi has been a failure in terms of governance... What he has going for him is his soft mien and good man management skills. However, the asphalt layer on the road is so thin that on a hot day it can expand and separate, and easy for rain to wash it away or tires to break it to pieces. Nigerians are generally greedy lots... But awarding contracts as political favors, that's corruption in every sense. 1 Like |

I doubt if anybody is working against Gburugburu. He is the one doing himself. When a supposed leader prefers to surround himself with sychophants instead of technocrats, he should be prepared to bear the full brunt of definite failure. Awarding strategic projects to political friends and associates as a means of compensation for political patronage and furtherance of political brotherhood is certainly an unfortunate way to fritter away public fund. Let the lessons sink in. That is, if he Gburugburu will learn. There are construction companies with years of proven experience and track records. But Gburus will skip them and rather award projects to politicians who then set up a one-off-project construction company; some kind of emergency construction company. Some of them even rent equipment to do their job! Their target is not to establish any good reputation in competence and quality service delivery. They just want the money. Money, money and more money! Nothing more, nothing less. Go and check, almost all the projects done by these emergency contractors for Gburugburu are of very poor quality. What a recklessly irresponsible way to waste public fund! Anything that is worth doing should be done to the best standard, otherwise it should be left alone. Gburugburu takes the full blame for being such a lily-livered person. The buck stops right at his table. I can't imagine any serious administrator doing things the Gburugburu way. Who is in charge? Who is governing who? Is it the dog that wags the tail, or the tail that wags the dog? Contractors deliver below specification and we are here discussing it. Isn't it ridiculous? What stops him from hunting down those contractors and recovering every dime they took from government for the failed projects. Look leadership is never a tea party. It is serious business; business of furthering and saving lives. That's what it is. Anybody who understands this fact should know that a true leader is neither a joker nor a do-gooder with a thick smile built into his mien by way of default setting. A man whose intent for being in government is to stimulate the economic power of his political cronies through use of public works is a clear figuration of plain weakness and falseness of character. Wake up, Mr Governor, you are wasting our time and money trying to please enemies of state who you mistake for friends. Wield the big stick now, and quit being naive! When the chips are down, the man in office will be judged by the legacies he leaves behind, not by how many political friends he enriched. Let the man in Lion Building be the lion he should be. Let him learn to roar and be a permanent terror to those who plan to plunder public resources. His body language will either encourage looting or instill discipline in public service. There is still time for real change. |
