Ex German international Sidney Sam has disclosed that he regrets his decision to choose Germany over Nigeria when the Nigerian team were very interested in him joining them. The ex-Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, who wasn’t present at the 2014 World Cup won by Germany, has said he would have played at the World Cup if he chose to play for Nigeria.

“Looking back, I can say I was close to winning the World Cup with Germany. Maybe I would have played in it if I had accepted the chance offered by Nigeria. My regret, yes it is, but in life when you make a decision you live with the consequences,” he said.

Before the 2014 World Cup, Sam, who now plays for the Austrian side SCR Altach, was very interested in switching his national team to Nigeria, after previously representing Germany at junior levels.
