Anambra female lawyers petition police over sexual harassment by Chinese in Onitsha

Female Lawyers in Anambra State have petitioned the state Police Command over alleged sexual harassment of girls by Chinese nationals in Onitsha.

The Chinese, it was gathered, worked in a company in Onitsha.

The petition written under the aegis of 'Stand Up Women Society was signed by Adaobinna Edozie, Nkolika Ebede, chairperson and secretary respectively.

It was titled "Cases Of Sexual Harassment, Human Rights and Labour Violations by the Expatriate Workers"

The lawyers alleged that the expatriates would always entitice the girls with money and that any one of them that failed to succumb to their intimidation and harassment would be sacked.

Their petition read in part, "We seriously view these issues especially the manner and situations in which they occurred as breaches and harassment of the highest order by these expatriates

"Termination of one's appointment without any justification and without payment of any benefits, exposure of the young girl to harsh weather with the attendant health risks, are also serious infringement of her fundamental rights

"We hereby pray, that you use your good offices to proper investigate into these atrocities and impunity with the aim of bringing the culprits to book "

The State Commissioner of Police in the state, John Abang, confirmed receipt of the petition on the telephone.

He said, "The matter is under investigation"
