Birthday is a day that is an exact number of years after the day you were born. Birthday is also the anniversary of the birth of someone.

Also, it gives you the opportunity to look back and praise the name of the Lord.


Permit me to give you the sneak preview of what this article contains. There are many people who believe birthday is not worth celebrating at all.

The celebration is all about celebrating the gift of life. Whenever we are privileged to witness our birthday, we should get excited and celebrate it with friends.

However, the celebration I am referring to here is not having a big party which requires outrageous spending.

Whereas, there are so many ways to celebrate something without spending outrageously.

To be candid, if you know the biblical reasons why you should celebrate your day. You’ll be able to celebrate it every year.

Do not just sneak a glance at this piece. Sit down, peruse carefully, digest the words and apply the teaching.

• To Give Thanks To God
Ephesians 5:20
[20]Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

It is clearly written in God’s Word that we should give thanks always. But how many of us can boldly say we do that every day.

See, there are some people who only give thanks to God only when things are fine.

They see no reason to give thanks to God when things are bad. These people are the kinds of people who doesn’t give thanks to God always

Hence, on your birthday, one of the things you will have opportunity to do; is to give thanks to God.

A good Christian is expected to celebrate his birthday in order to show his heart of gratitude to God.

Basically, that should be the core reason for having a birthday party.

On your birthday, you are to praise the name of the Lord because it is by His grace that you have been sustained.

God is the maker of all things. And the Bible says God sits in heaven and does whatever pleases Him (Psalm 135:6).

Listen, In His pleasure, he has kept you alive. He deserves your praise.

Genesis 40:20
[20]And it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.

In those days, when Egypt was the world’s powerhouse. Pharoah, the king of Egypt celebrated his birthday.

In addition to this, he made a feast for all his servants. Today, we can call that a birthday party.

So, great people who are in position of power celebrate their day.

Everyone wants to become great, right? But the point is, we automatically become great as we emulate some good habits great people have.

We start by emulating the good habits of great people. You are to prepare for the big days ahead of you.

Although, you may not have the money to organize a big birthday party. But, do it in a little way you can afford.



Herod
Also, Herod celebrated his day too;

[21]And when a convenient day was come, that HEROD ON HIS BIRTHDAY MADE A SUPPER to his lords, high captains, and chief estates of Galilee.

Herod was the governor of Galilee (Luke 3:1) at that time. In his days, he celebrated his birthday. Forget about his bad side.

He also had a birthday party which eminent personalities attended. People were trilled as they were entertained by entertainers.

Although, we are not commanded anywhere in the Bible to celebrate our birthdays. We are told to number our days which signifies birthday celebration.

Also, we were not commanded anywhere in the Bible not to celebrate our birthdays.

But as you become influential, people you have impacted positively will want to celebrate the day you were born.

You may not have the opportunity to celebrate your birth anniversary in a big way. But bear it in mind that as you raise men, people will celebrate you.

I believe, you’d be better off celebrating your day on a low-cost budget. Rather than not celebrating it at all.

• To Apply Your Heart To Wisdom
Psalms 90:12
[12]So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

This bible verse simply means your birthday is a day of assessment. How have I been living till today? Have I been living a life that adds value?

What have I been doing wrong? What do I need to change about my lifestyle?

How do we apply our hearts to wisdom as we celebrate our birthdays?

The truth is, as you are aging, you are getting closed to the day of your death.

Job’s Words
Hence, Job talked about the fact that; the man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble (Job 14:1). We only have few days.

This truth must be remembered by us every time we celebrate our birthday.

Anytime you celebrate your birth anniversary, remember this truth.

Because despite the glamour, glory and riches that are in this world. We are going to leave this world one day.

Again, we must live under a constant apprehension of the shortness and uncertainty of life. And the near approach of death and eternity.

Anyone who does not know the day he was born, may not be able to know his age and realize his/her closeness to death.

But, this celebration provides an avenue for us to think about life. On that day, as you think on how you’ve been living.

You may have to take a decision to live a life that adds value to people’s life.

Instead of living a life that will bring you sorrow at the end of your sojourn on earth. We celebrate our day in order to apply our hearts to wisdom.



What You Should Know About Birthday
• Do not organize birthday to fulfil the lust of the flesh. It is to be celebrated to reveal your heart of gratitude to God for your existence.

• Please, if you don’t have the money to organize a big birthday party, just enjoy yourself on that day. Have fun and praise God.

• Add value to lives and in years to come, people will celebrate you. Not even your birthday alone.

• Never have it in mind to take revenge over those who do not wish you well on your birthday. Just leave them to God.

• Let your life be impactful and your generation will conceive a need to celebrate you.

• If possible, invite your friends and relatives to your birthday party.
