Montpellier have signed Nigeria striker John Utaka from Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee. The 29-year-old, who spent five years in France after joining Lens in 2002, has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal. He has struggled at Portsmouth ever since joining them from Rennes for a reported £7m in 2007, having scored just seven goals in that time. Utaka, who has also played in Qatar and Egypt, had a contract with Portsmouth until 2012. Montpellier are eighth in the French first division but have managed only 17 goals in 20 games this season.
